I want to get some feedback on what people think about trusted status. Generally I think it is a great idea as it allows me to write two or three threads and get them all posted quickly without waiting for approval to be given. I have put a couple of people on trusted status and am thinking about opening it up even more but I have two concerns:

First it does not allow for editing. It seems like I always find a small error or two even from people who are great writers. I know that my own work can always use some clean up. It seems like I don't do a good job editing the thread when someone is on trusted status. I guess it would be a matter of comitting it edit every thread that was automatically approved.

Second, it does not allow for feedback to be given in the normal way. Not that feedback is working too well now. I also guess that feedback could be given via the boards, a PM, or in the rating section.

I guess I have kind of talked myself back into using trusted status more as it is more a matter of teaching myself to use the system a little differently than anything else.

I woudl be interested in hearing if anyone else had any thoughts on this topic.

:D

As a writer, I've enjoyed being able to get more threads up quickly by being trusted.

As an editor, I've found that "co-editor" status (for things like vacation), has been more useful to me than "trusted writer" status.

Partly this is because it doesn't feel like I've had enough consistent contributors to my stories that there would be more than a couple of people who would be in trusted status -- and those people are co-editors already. So if I had more strong contributors (number and quality of pages), I'd likely put them on trusted status.

I agree about thread feedback. It has become less easy to use, and less useful in Chyoo 2.

Trusted Status?

I like it myself. There are authors out there that show a consistant level of level of skill in their writing and I'm honored to have them writing in my threads. The least I can do is approve their work in a timely fashion, but that doesn't always happen.

So I've got two maybe three authors on trusted level, Like Gystex and Deathofcards, and some I wouldn't dream of trusting, like Hypnometal. It's a personal call.

Don't trust me...

Hello,
well my opinion on this topic is... I'd rather not be trusted. I enjoy the fact that somebody must read and edit, then approve my threads. It gives a sense of how good I am. Also, the feedback is great too (even if it doesn't work right). So, I'd rather not be on some auto-approve list. I'd rather wait a week or two to have something approved.

As an editor, the auto-aprove -trusted status takes away all my control as an editor. Sure I can edit the threads later, but what if I don't like the entire thing and somebody adds following it? I can't delete the thread. You know. I like to approve threads, and I enjoy editing too.

My thoughts.

Thanks, Tim. (niceguy2002tim)

I'm both for and against trusted status. I would never regardless of the quality of someone's submissions to my own stories give them trusted status. I agree with Tim on this one I like to see what people are writing for me and edit the threads where applicable.

However I do appreciate such status for other people's stories. I have it for two stories Life Of A Senior and Graduation Night. I will admit to abusing it for the latter story, and really wish I hadn't now. However I do throughly check through my own work and make sure there are no errors and so I'm usually pretty pleased with what I write for LOAS.

LOAS's author doesn't have any complaints about my work as I have talked with him about the threads and he's even added off my work.

Agree with Tim as well. :D

No offense to anybody, but I won't give "trusted" status to anyone, at least not until I'm about to retire. I like to see what is added to my stories. I know "pending" threads already show up before they are approved, but they can be deleted at some point. "Trusted" threads can't and as others have said, everybody needs a little editing here and there anyway. ;)

I've been given "trusted" status to a few stories. I don't mind much really, except that as others have said, it's a little harder to get a minimum of feedback that way.

The thing I don't like though is people giving you "trusted" status after you have submitted a single thread to one of their stories. It gives me the feeling that person does not really care what is going on with their stories.

Good Feedback

This has been a good discussion. It sounds to me like trusted status is generally seen as giving up too much control over a story. I had not thought about the possibility of a story ending up going completely off track, and then not being able to delete the thread, although someone could edit an already approved thread and do the same thing.

I do agree that it would be very useful for when you know you are leaving, or going to be absent for an extended period.

I've not recieved any feedback from the author of Graduation Night, but I have got feedback on my LOAS threads.

Hmmmmm well, as much as I'd be honored to earn trusted status...getting a reply in critique of my writing is more appreciated...as each story is different, and perhaps what I write might just not fit into the scheme of things.

A lot of you guys said you'd rather be reviewed and approved just like everyone else.

Perhaps that's a feature CHYOO could add, a notification that you've been made a trusted author and an accept or reject option.

What do ya think?

A writer can always request that a story editor remove them from trusted status, or the writer could notify the editor by hand, "Hey, I've submitted a thread, could you check it over?".

Given the Chyoo site maintainers' level of responsiveness, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for this kind of highly refined feature.
