Trusted Authors list?

There isn't any forum to talk about the website itself, so I figured this was the best place to make a site suggestion.

So, I'm still relatively new here and not quite aware of the story approval queue time. I'm not sure why there isn't simply the ability to upload a story or chapter and have it go live immediately, as is the case on nearly all other fiction websites. From what I understand, the method currently is to submit a story and then wait until it's personally viewed by the mods to be accepted. But if a story violates guidelines, there's still the "Report Story" link.

At the very least, why not have a list of "Trusted Authors" - authors that have consistently followed guidelines and already actively posted stories for a minimum length of time. Those authors can have their story uploads go live immediately rather than having to wait several days.

I wanted to bring this up because as it stands, the convenience factor is simply not there. I find it infinitely more satisfying to have my story up and available for view immediately. If this has been explained/answered before, please feel free to link me to any previous discussions.

Thank you.

I'll take a swing at this. I don't know the exact numbers but I can make close guesses.

If you were to got to the New pager you would see that on an average day this site brings in, oh probably at least several hundred stories.

Now yes the site could post them "site" unseen straight to the new page and let the readers report the ones that have underage, bestiality, or any of the other not acceptable content.

The problem would arise that there would be a portion of the readership that would like those stories. And not report them. So after awhile these stories would begin to take a more dominant roll in every category and it would be a lot harder to just wipe the slate clean.

That last is a guess but I would think it much easier to check a few hundred per day than a few thousand per category. And there are categories here that lend themselves to darker stories

Now "trusted" authors.

A site without rules that are daily checked, with anonymous writers would be like a mask. It would let free inhibitions. It would let those darker impulses come out from the shadowy corners so very much easier.

And with that... just who could really be trusted, we are one and all artist of the mind. And like most artists we can get a bit touchy when someone says we can't do something.

It's a red cape before the bull.

My opinions. Worth what you paid for them

To give you a quick and dirty answer: Approval is done by one of two people; Laurel and Manu. They run the show here. They view each submission to see if it meets the guidelines they set which protects not only themselves but writers in general.

As for approval time, authors who have made a signifigant amount of submissions with no violations often have faster approval times as their stories get a quick glance opposed to a fine toothed comb.

I'm pretty sure there's only one story submissions editor here--Laurel. Manu does the technical end.

I also wouldn't be surprised if there already is a trusted authors' list--that Laurel has a list of regular authors that she hasn't had any trouble with and pretty much just passes through.

I tend to look at it this way:

Lit is the #1 site in the world for authors of erotica...whether they be fledgling newbies, semi-pros, or some hybrid in-between. Nowhere else on the vast interwebs can your words been seen by as many eyeballs as they can right here. When your creations are going up on a site that is getting seven digit unique visitor stats day-in and day-out, year-in and year-out, you are playing in the big leagues. This isn't AOL chat with a max of 36 viewers at a time.

In the more than eight years I have been reading here and the six plus I have been submitting stories, the typical delay between hitting the submission button and having your story up and live has been only 48 to 72 hours. When you consider the hours, days, weeks, months, and even years some of us have invested in our tales, that couple of days is but a blink of an eye lid in the overall measure of things.

In reality, I look in amazement that more than 500 new stories a week are posting as quickly as they do, far more than I am ever bothered by a two or three day delay for review by Laurel. If you want instant gratification, perhaps you can build a fan base on CraigsList? ;)

"Trusted" authors ?
You make it sound like the site is run by a Committee. It ain't.
As to 'convenience' it's not for authors to say; it's for Laurel.

With regard to posting time, it is a bit variable at times, but the latest information is usually to be found in a sticky at the top of the list.

Settle back and enjoy the ride. It really is good fun.
