"President-elect Donald Trump will ban administration officials from lobbying for five years after leaving their posts, his transition team said Wednesday."

"All appointees will have to sign a document that signifies they either are not a registered lobbyist or have terminated any lobbying ties, as well as a pledge to not go back within five years.

The news comes after reports that Vice President-elect Mike Pence, now in charge of the transition, purged the team of all lobbyists. Politico also reported Wednesday that having recent lobbyists on the transition team violated the team's internal ethics rules."

Trump team to bar administration officials from lobbying for five years
"It goes back to Mr. Trump's goal of making sure people aren't using government to enrich themselves," Republican National Committee chief strategist and Trump transition team member Sean Spicer said on a conference call.
Meanwhile, on the same page: Trump meets with Indian business partners after vow to step away from company

And foreign and domestic business and political folks wanting to curry favor with Tromp are staying at his pricey DC hotels. And his kids and in-laws are still running his bsiness empire, presumably not pro bono. Sounds like the Tromps are merely cutting out the competition so they can enrich themselves even more.

They should start a "charitible" foundation...

I can see that the executive could demand any employee divorce themselves from lobbying, but is the 5 year rule disputable as an infringement of an individuals constitutional rights? Just wonderin'.

The fact that Trump supporters still believe this empty promise or think that Trump was the anti-establishment candidate of the right is pretty hilarious considering how many lobbyists and Washington Insiders are on Trump's transition team. That's not even mentioning the White Nationalist, Anti-Semite, Misogynist, former Wall Street Banker quadruple hit that is Steve Bannon.

Drain the swamp? Not so much it turns out. He's just filling it with alligators and crocodiles.

Not if they voluntarily sign an agreement in order to be employed.

It's called a contract. It's voluntary and legal.

;) ;) Sort of like a NDA...

Oh, wow...

Just fucking wow...

He meets with people???

We should just up and impeach him now!

Problem is, although legal, I don't see how it is practically enforceable. The employee is making a pledge, as a condition of employment, about his future conduct AFTER his employment is terminated.

Kind of tough to fire him at that point, and engaging in lawful employment as a lobbyist would not be breaking any laws. If Trump is serious about this, he should seek legislation from Congress putting some teeth into the policy.

People unfamiliar with the "Emoluments Clause," which I'm guessing includes 999 out of every 1000 Tea Partiers, are going to get well acquainted with it in these next few years.

The Framers actually foresaw we might one day get a Trump.

Do you know what the word "emolument" means?

I would certainly expect that YOU know what it means, and if you do, you know that, as used in the Constitution, it specifically prohibits simultaneously serving in both the Executive and Legislative braches of the federal government and members of Congress voting to increase their salaries DURING their terms of office. Period.

There are a fair number of civil and criminal laws monitored by the US Office of Government Ethics (https://www.oge.gov/web/oge.nsf/Enforcement) which President Trump will need to stay aware of and in compliance with, but it is safe to say that merely meeting with business associates prior to assuming office has not one fucking thing to do with the Emoluments Clause of the United States Constitution.

I'm thinking Wrong Element was getting confused about a potential legal conflict involving Ivanka Trump's possible use of skin moisturizers.

I didn't vote for Trump and cannot currently foresee him ever giving me any reason to vote for him in the future.

Seeing Hillary Clinton voters even mention the word "emoluments" is completely hilarious.

And implying that diplomats will get preferrential treatment if they stay at the Trump hotel at $20k a night? Because a couple of senior con law experts are absolutely sure that's a violation of the emoluments rules.

"Senior" "con law experts?"

Jailhouse lawyers have experts, let alone enough of them that some were promoted to senior positions?

Well, that person, who willingly violated that agreement might do well te remember that Trump is one litigious sob...

;) ;)

*chuckle*

ditto

You go look it up on Wikipedia (do they have a Wikilegal?) and then you trot it out to look smart...

;) ;)

... and just like that, suddenly the Framers are not a bunch of dead old slave owners and boobs who could not think outside of their present state of affairs, but were wise and prescient thinkers able to foresee a Trump.
