Trump's Purely Potemkin Posturing for Political Purpose

Trump signs executive orders aimed at lowering drug prices in largely symbolic move

The orders are unlikely to take effect anytime soon, if they do so at all

Experts said most of the proposals cannot be implemented via executive order.
Instead, the administration must complete the rulemaking process, which could
take months or years, said Rachel Sachs, an associate professor of law at
Washington University in St. Louis.

Drug companies have pushed back fiercely on that proposal, arguing there is “no way to
guarantee the safety of drugs that come into the country from outside the United States’
gold-standard supply chain.”

“The administration’s proposal today is a reckless distraction that impedes our ability
to respond to the current pandemic — and those we could face in the future.”

- Steve Ubl, president and chief executive of PhRMA, the largest drug industry trade group

One advocacy group pushing lower drug prices panned the orders as an empty
political gesture shortly after Trump’s signing ceremony.

If Trump is for gouging the evil, money-grubbing drug companies of their obscene "excess" profits, the Dems are vociferously against it and in support of the the evil, money-grubbing drug companies being able to retain all of their obscene "excess" profits,

Trump could sign an EO ordering the FDA to facilitate importation of a cure for childhood cancer and the Dems would shriek that we have to listen to the "ecperts" at the drug companies.

President Obama created an amnesty program over-riding actual federal immigration law that former constitutional law guest lecturer Barack Obama correctly said that a POTUS could not do because the constitution is a charter of negative liberties. That seemed to work out. SCOTUS says it can't be undone by EO.

What's the problem?

Big Pharma are a bunch of unmitigated cunts. When I read the headline on the BBC earlier I actually thought Trump had done something I could applaud, but digging deeper it seems it will have bugger all effect.
