Trump vs Universities

They settled a complaint for money, as a couple of other schools have. The complaint was about a recipient institution having policies the Feds do not want to support.

UCLA didn’t settle anything.

If the federal government doesn’t like what UCLA is doing with its money, it can stop the flow of money. It’s not entitled to $1 billion in extortion.

Anyway, the Trump administration’s overreach has nothing to do with antisemitism or DEI. That’s simply smoke to cover a classic authoritarian power grab, and retribution against California in this case.

Have you noticed that all of the universities attacked by Trump are in blue or purple states?

Real conservatives oppose government overreach. Obviously you are not a real conservative.

It's all about DEI and the abandonment of meritocratic admission policies. That being the case it should come as no surprise that those institutions are in blue states.

Ya have to wonder those donations for research given to these supposed stellar institutions like Harvard are diverted to infrastructure and administrative cost.

Yet another point. In some instances the "administrative overhead" is as much as 40% of the grant. Realistically that should not exceed 10%.

Y’all are 100% bluster and 0% facts, as usual.

Judge invalidates Trump admin’s Harvard funding freeze

Burroughs framed her order as necessary to safeguard academic freedom and First Amendment free speech protections, “even if doing so risks the wrath of a government committed to its agenda no matter the cost.”

Trump’s harassment of Harvard and other universities will surely continue. It’s straight out of the authoritarian handbook.

The Trump regime continues its war on universities. It demands federal government (authoritarian) control over the universities.

The Trump Administration’s New Protection Racket for Higher Ed

The “compact” is quite explicit: Universities that do not sign on to this thing thereby “elect[] to forego federal benefits.” What benefits? Well, that same first paragraph lists quite a few specific “benefits”: “(i) access to student loans, grant programs, and federal contracts; (ii) funding for research directly or indirectly; (iii) approval of student and other visas in connection with university matriculation and instruction; and (iv) preferential treatment under the tax code,” which means 501(c)(3) status. This compact is a “reward” in exactly the same sense that it is “rewarding” to purchase protection from the Mafia. The compact is an open, explicit threat.
