Trump takes the Fifth!

taking the fifth... isn't that when if you say something it may incriminate you? doesn't that point straight at t's criminality?

“I once asked, ‘If you’re innocent, why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?’ Now I know the answer to that question,” Trump said on Truth Social after meeting with New York Attorney General Letitia James.

“When your family, your company, and all the people in your orbit have become the targets of an unfounded, politically motivated Witch Hunt supported by lawyers, prosecutors, and the Fake News Media, you have no choice,”

The Fifth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution says in part that no person “shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself.”

No American is required to assist the government in his own prosecution.

The AG in NYC has made anti-Trump public statements calling him an "illegitimate President," proving that she has an animus against the President.

Lol.....go figure he'd put a spin on his previous statements.

They are targets of an investigation because the evidence is making them one.

I actually applaud Trump taking the 5th. He is 76 years old, and it is about time he figured out when to keep his mouth shut, and when to speak. If Trump had figured this out 7 years ago, he in all likelihood would not even be in this situation.

However I doubt he will stay silent outside the legal arena where his words are spoken under oath. Instead he will continue with his bombastic statements to wind up his base.

Yet if I take a peak in my crystal ball, and view the future court case (s) where Trump is on the stand, and re-invoking his 5th amendment right, I suspect the prosecutors will present an argument to the jurists serving on that case that will weight Trump's outside the court room statements, and his refusal inside the court room.

How will the jury view this is anyone's guess, but most people will not let their political views intrude in matters of law, where they are tasked with finding the truth.

Of course... I think the Right calls those the pejorative flip floppers... and then vilifies people for changing their mind in light of new evidence. I think it is reasonable to at least hold people to their own standards. Suddenly NOW when they are the focus of an investigation, taking the fifth is principled, not incriminating (it was never incriminating, of course). On a related note, it’s like political correctness. The Right calls it PC run amok when they don’t like it and principled disagreement when they do the same.
Well, I think you have to give him a bit of a break...normally his lawyers wear out the prosecution before they even try to subpoena him.

Odd thing for an innocent man to do, no?

Personally, I don’t care, but if the moron is going to lambast people for taking the fifth and cite them as being guilty, then he can hang by his own standards.

Trump and the Truth
they will need an asbestos bible for him to swear on

Not if your name is Hillary or you're a Democrat.
Trump's obsession with Hillary is literally what got him into this investigation.
Your obsession with Trump causes you to bring up Hillary without context or relevance.

Not if your name is Hillary or you're a Democrat.
As BabyBoomer52 and Queequegshed keep reminding us, Sandy Berger is a Democrat. You can’t forget these things when you make crap posts, or you look like a liar and a fake.

I mentioned Sandy Berger to point out that he removed records from the National Archives reading room in advance of congressional testimony about 911. He was caught, pled guilty. and got a slap on the wrist. $50K fine, probation and community service. His party affiliation is immaterial.

At the time of the Berger, Petreaus and Clinton violations, the maximum prison sentence was one year. None of them did time. Trump signed a law raising the max sentence to 5 years. We don’t know if Trump has violated any laws or if he has, the details that might shed light on the severity that might indicate a potential sentencing scenario.

The NY case is completely unrelated and I believe is a civil investigation, not a criminal investigation.

He took the fifth....in a civil case. Not a criminal case, a CIVIL case.
If you would have bothered to inform yourself you'd know why:

People generally don’t have a constitutional right to avoid questions in a civil lawsuit, but Trump’s legal team fought James’ attempt to question him for months, arguing that the district attorney’s parallel investigation created a risk he could face criminal charges. Lawyers in James’ office have assisted with that criminal investigation.

Manhattan Judge Arthur Engoron ruled that James’ office had “the clear right” to question Trump and other principals in his company — though Trump also had a right to decline to answer questions because of the criminal case.
That criminal probe had appeared to be progressing toward a possible criminal indictment, but stalled after a new district attorney, Alvin Bragg, took office in January: A grand jury that had been hearing evidence disbanded. The top prosecutor who had been handling the probe resigned after Bragg raised questions internally about the viability of the case.

The district attorney’s investigation has already led to criminal charges against the Trump Organization and its longtime finance chief, Allen Weisselberg, who are accused of
tax fraud related to fringe benefits offered by the company.

The height of hypocrisy for Trump (and for the board Trumpettes if they don't acknowledge it). We'll just take him at his word--that it means he's guilty of all charges.

The FBI has in the past falsified evidence against Donald Trump and his associates. So why should we trust them now?

Leaked what? Nothing had to be leaked. The U.S. government tried for fifteen months to get all of the material Donald Trump illegally stole from the United States and was holding back, and he didn't comply. They knew he had it; they knew it didn't belong to him; they knew much of it was classified; they know he is an espionage asset of the Russians. They are on solid grounds for retrieving it themselves and putting him in prison for his outrageous flaunting of the law--in this and a multitude of other issues.

There's a reason 45 never testifies under oath and pleads the fifth.

And it's not because he's honest outside of court

What year did you stop trusting the FBI and what was the incident that made you feel such a way?
