Interesting to watch the die hard trump supporters and conspiracy theorists going through the mental gymnastics to avoid the reality staring them in the face. There was an attack on the Capitol Building, an act of domestic terrorism, committed by trump supporters after being provoked to do just that by the president himself. The attempts to change the topic, to talk about anything else, are weak and transparent. Attempts to blame these horrific acts on other groups are even weaker, and are being proven false with each and every arrest so far. It would be laughable if this weren’t so deadly serious. Let’s not forget here, what happened on January 6th was possibly the single most egregious assaults to country in well over a hundred years.

This one was an especially shameful disgrace due to the fact that it was inspired by a sitting president, and by the complete amateur response; grossly unprepared security around the Capitol Building, president’s refusal to act and deploy the NG, hours of occupation of the Capitol Building before reinforcements show, etc, etc, etc. We were made to look completely incompetent, unstable, and out of control. This has fundamentally changed our International standing, and that has numerous real and consequential implications. I would have thought, hoped, that maybe some trump supporters here on this board had some sense of patriotism or ethical morals to denounce this attack on our nation and its constitutional foundations. It says a lot about the integrity and priorities of those who do not

Peaceful protest

I agree that the vast majority of the people there were peaceful. That does not change the severity of the acts of terrorism that so many committed. Furthermore, if you have been to very many large protests you would have undoubtedly been coached about the realities of how peaceful protests can devolve for a number of reasons, and that one of the cardinal rules of peaceful protest is to immediately distance yourself from any and all disruptive or violent behavior. This sage advice is pretty standard at nearly every protest I have ever attended, and for very good reasons.

Failure to distance yourself from such behavior not only puts you at physical risk, but it also lends legitimacy and support to any and all acts of violence being perpetrated. Had I been at the march to the Capitol building, I would have fled the moment I saw clashes begin with the police or people climbing the walls of the building. This is the reason that the vast majority of BLM protesters went home before dark; it was at night when the punks and instigators would come out looking for trouble. Very few of those people had anything to do with BLM.

But again, what we saw yesterday was an unprecedented assault. No whataboutism can change that, your lack of willingness to discuss the terrorist assault of January 6th says a lot. It pretty much discredits any concerns for law and order you have professed, or any semblance of love of country for that matter.
