Watching & reading about the incredible amount of protesting going on all over France today, the main point of it evidently being demanding the resignation of Macron now, it brought back to mind the amount of protesting against Trump, especially at and immediately after his election. And also considering the huge amount of vocal/written protest which still exists against Trump today, close to two years later.

But, there seems to be a night and day difference between the actual affects of the two protests: the French protests have been steadily, consistently building, with today's massive protests obviously the biggest of all. So incredibly big and impressively determined are the French protests that I do not doubt significant numbers of Marcon's closest confidants may be advising him now that resignation might just be the smartest thing to do for France before these protests grow even mightier.

I read today many French say they're protesting Macron's loyalty to the EU, which instantly brought to mind so many Americans protesting Trump's loyalty to Russia.

But, while some of the earliest Trump protests were impressive, and the verbal/written protestations against Trump's loyalty to Russia haven't ceased, the difference between the two protests seems clear: the majority of French people seemed to have bought into Macron selling out to the EU, whereas the majority of Americans just haven't bought into Trump selling out to Russia.

Parisians riot in the streets. Why? Because it's Paris. And that's what always happens. For centuries now. Rioting is such a Parisian pasttime that Napoleon widened the streets in the guise or urban renewal but for the single purpose of making it hard to build barricades.

How Americans manage to act surprised whenever Paris erupts into street riots beggars my mind.

Perhaps that's because Trump not only has extended the sanctions that were already in place but has imposed even more sanctions on Russia and certain listed Russian citizens. In other words his actions don't match the meme.

I know that the die-hards are going to hold on to that meme until their dying day. It's the only lever they have to try to de-legitimize his presidency. But it's not gaining any traction no matter how hard certain media/news outlets continually trumpet the effort.

France is an interesting situation. Obviously the citizenry are really unhappy with Macron and his cow-towing to Brussels. The problem is that France and Germany are in a tussle as to who is going to lead the EU. Economically Germany has the edge, politically it's France. The point being is that there is a big disconnect between what the political class want to do and what the citizens want. France cannot lead the EU without the support of their citizens. Merkel is facing a similar situation in Germany. The reasons are a bit different and the protests not as vocal/violent (Germans are all about "al ist ordnung"). What we're watching is the potential fracturing of the entire EU.

Last time I checked Trump was anti-Macron, too, so I don't think the vs. in the title is accurate.
