Trump claims his supporters won't vote in the 2022 and 2024 elections unless the GOP backs his groundless election-fraud theories

Former President Donald Trump claimed his supporters would sit out future elections if the Republican Party did not address his baseless claims that the 2020 presidential election was rigged against him.

"If we don't solve the Presidential Election Fraud of 2020 (which we have thoroughly and conclusively documented), Republicans will not be voting in '22 or '24," Trump said in a statement emailed to his supporters on Wednesday.

"It is the single most important thing for Republicans to do," he added.

Since leaving office in January, Trump has continued to claim that last year's presidential election was rigged in Joe Biden's favor through widespread voter fraud.

I encourage all Republicans to follow their sore-loser cult leader's instructions about boycotting the next election.

Anyone who is politically engaged enough to do what Trump says, is engaged enough to vote even when Trump says not to.

I encourage them to start their own country

You seem to be stuck on that. I say call them on their civil war bluster, arrest them when they violate the law, and lock enough of them up that we maintain the Union. The Union has poured resources into those states, and we should not tuck tail and abandon those investments.

Also, there are a lot of rational people in those states that have been under Taliban-like rule for a long time. Time to liberate those folks. Stop pouting and buck up to the times.

You're right, but it sure says a lot about the stunning immaturity of their leader that he would even suggest this.

We need more audits, not less. Audits of 'Pub funds and campaigns, 'Rumps books, and so on.

I am stuck on it because it is the ONLY way to prevent violence. Here is the reality...if the election was today...Democrats would lose resoundingly. They would lose the House. They would lose the Senate. They would lose the Presidency. How it this possible? Because there are more of them than you think

"Them" being Republicans? A majority of Americans have identified as Democrats for decades now (not that all those who so self-ID will necessarily vote D in every election; there are such things as swing voters).

I don't buy your "reality".

Them...those who will vote Trump over Biden

Nahhh, it would be the main way to increase violence in the long run.

Lincoln had to make a similar choice. He chose maintaining the Union. Some Confederate subcultures never got over the result, but they reluctantly submitted to the gradual acceptance that African Americans deserved full human rights protections within the Union. Then, when a new period of rapid global change came along and a racist authoritarian narrowly won a Presidential election, all those old feelings of returning to the past came flooding into the consciousness of the Confederate mentality.

Time to stomp that mentality into the dirt again. Just like with Trump, if you give a racist prick an inch, they will take a mile, and the conflict will only escalate. Address it now, no matter how much they respond with violence, and spare us much more conflict in the future.

The overwhelming majority of the next generation will not stand for this Deplorable crap-- they have way too much to lose.

I don't see the downside of this.

The downside is that it makes it that much harder to restore a system of two sane and rational parties. The GOP of Reagan's time was in many ways evil and in many ways stupid, but it was not crazy in the way it has become since the Tea Partiers came on the scene.

One well hidden fact about 2020 is that millions of poor, under educated, angry people voted. They had never voted before, and largely voted for Trump. They lost. The highly likely response in 2024 is, that even if Trump stands again, these voters will return to their normal behavior and not vote at all.

The various attempts in the States to limit access to voting will certainly reduce Black and Hispanic votes for the Democrats, but it will also most likely similarly devastate the vote of Trump's "poor trash" constituency.

Power will not come from the Trailer park.

^^^ Fortunately, there were enough sane people motivated to vote to overcome the Dribblers. Will THEY come back to the polls?

Depends on circumstances. In 2020, the stakes were high enough to motivate many voters on both sides who did not usually vote -- the result was all-time record turnout. It remains to be seen whether the choices on the ballot in 2024 will present that stark a contrast. In 2022, we may be sure they will not.

'22 will be more critical than many realize.

The incumbent president's party always loses seats in the midterms, it's routine -- it won't be "critical" unless the shift is overwhelming, as in 1994.

I encourage Republicans and Democrats to continue fighting over this and solve in a giant death match.
