Trump Admin passed up Pfizer's offer to deliver more vaccine to U.S.

Now that the news is out, he's going to strong-arm the company into delivering more vaccines beyond contracted $100M order to the U.S. via EO tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Pfizer has allocated vaccine production to other countries through June 2021.........so if the EO sticks, the world has another reason to pissed at us.

I'm remembering when Trump refused to assist the state government obtain ventilators and protective gear for the hospitals as they fought on the front lines against COVID-19. He said that the federal government had no role in saving lives during the pandemic. He said that all the work must be done by the states.

So, the states would order ventilators and personal protective gear for the hospitals...which cost more because they didn't have the federal government negotiating the lowest possible price... and then Trump would send in federal agents to confiscate everything before the doctors and nurses could even start using any of it.


The Germans and other European nations would never be that cruel, but I can see what you're getting at.

Just when you think trump has hit his low point

It’s really amazing how anyone can continue to stumble, fumble, and fuck something up over and over. The pandemic was indeed a problem that wasn’t trumps fault, these sorts of crisis face every president though. It comes with the job. Most of us would be able to understand a few mistakes along the way here and there, it happens. But here we are, listening to yet another excuse or justification for another 10,000 deaths or so. And in the twilight of his presidency, we witness trump blowing it on the only thing he has ever promised to deliver in response to the pandemic: a vaccine, and rapid distribution of said vaccine. THEN, as if that wasn’t bad enough, he goes on with this dubious EO that will, in all likelihood, serve no function other than to further inflame relations with our few remaining allies.

To say he screwed up is a gross understatement! This, his final legacy for his train wreck of a presidency, after blundering every opportunity to save even a few lives. It’s been nearly a year of his gross negligence on the Coronavirus; to date his response has been:

"We feel that we can deliver the vaccines as needed."

Slaoui’s remarks also come amid fallout from a New York Times story published
Monday, which reports that administration officials turned down an offer from
Pfizer to purchase additional vaccines in July.

given all the other vaccines in the pipeline, and ordered doses, you may be right... but i think the point here is more about trump stamping his feet and demanding more doses from pfizer (which would come at the expense of other countries' orders) and making eo threats. seems he was unable (so far) to effect this through eo directly, but by refusing the expected vaccine aid to other countries (one supposes in order to retain more doses for the usa) he's still holding people at virtual gunpoint. hmmn, since the docs are saying there should be no shortage, due to the other vaccines due to come online, what other reason does t have for alienating usa friends and allies even further with these actions?
