Supreme Court denies Trump allies’ bid to overturn Pennsylvania election results

December 8,2020

The Supreme Court on Tuesday denied a last-minute attempt by President Trump’s
allies to overturn the election results in Pennsylvania,

The U.S. Supreme Court rarely intervenes in a decision of a state supreme court
interpreting its own constitution and laws. But the plaintiffs charged that the system
raised federal issues.

Trump's Pet Reptile, Rep. Mike Kelly (R) leads an attack on democracy, for wax worm treats

"...they suggested remedy was to invalidate all votes cast by mail in the general election —
more than 2.5 million in total — or to dismiss the outcome of the election altogether so that
the state legislature could appoint its own slate of presidential electors."

Pennsylvania House Speaker Bryan Cutler made it very clear to Trump,
"...what power the legislature has and does not have."

"...at least one Pennsylvania Republican, Rep. Scott Perry, said in an interview Monday
that he will heed the request and dispute the state’s electors.

Republicans want to steal this election for Trump — they just don't know how.

December 8, 2020

The Washington Post reported that Trump reached out to Bryan Cutler, speaker
of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, on Monday in an effort to get
Cutler to invalidate the state's presidential election results, citing "all these issues
in Philadelphia." This is the third Republican state leader Trump has reached out to
with this request — he's also contacted Georgia's Gov. Brian Kemp and brought
Michigan legislators to the White House — and the third strikeout.

In fact, it's arguably the fourth. Trump also called Arizona's Gov. Doug Ducey.
Ducey claimed the president wasn't trying to pressure him — but c'mon,
Trump's "information gathering" is just more Trumpian code for his pressure
campaign.

So why isn't Trump getting what he asked for?

"It's evident that what's holding Republicans back is not honor or decency, but a lack
of options."

"Even in the face of all this, some state-level Republicans are still looking for any angle
they can find to overturn the election."

A group of House Republicans, led by Jim Jordan of Ohio and Mo Brooks of Alabama,
are publicly calling on Trump to continue fighting even after the Electoral College
legally certifies the election for Biden next week.

They wish they could help Trump overturn the election, but they just don't see
a path forward. They were prepared to abuse their power as far as they could
to help him, and have hit the wall.

Unfortunately for Trump, time has run out.

Is there hope that the portal between the Reality-based America and Trump's Alternate

Again, with the old Trumpie explanation of ", he was only joking. It's not real."

Those unverified, anecdotal explanations?

“I am aware of anecdotal statements from election night that some Democrat strongholds
were yet to be tabulated,” Cicchetti’s first analysis stated. “There was also some speculation
that the yet-to-be counted ballots were likely absentee mail-in ballots.”

This is a bit like saying that it will be sunny forever because, while there are some
anecdotes floating around about the sun “setting,” we should instead assume that
the sun’s existing presence in the sky is its natural, default state.

What can one say to this besides, “Come on, man”? There’s literal video of Milwaukee
County, Wis., officials submitting the county’s votes after the mail ballots there were
counted — a report that couldn’t be made until the vote-counting was done.

The late votes were unquestionably from more-populous counties with more mail ballots
to count and unquestionably largely mail ballots.

Shrugging at this as unknowable is simply embarrassing.

It is, however, nice to have Paxton on the record in response to questions about the lawsuit.
If an initial assessment of the suit suggested that it was shaky, the new response makes
its status clear: It has already collapsed.

Not literally, mind you. At least, not yet.

No evidence, again.

The Supreme Court on Friday rejected a lawsuit backed by President Donald Trump
to overturn Joe Biden’s election victory, ending a desperate attempt to get legal issues
rejected by state and federal judges before the nation’s highest court and subvert the
will of voters.

Trump bemoaned the decision late Friday, tweeting:
“The Supreme Court really let us down. No Wisdom, No Courage!”

The high court's order was a stark repudiation of a legal claim that was widely regarded
as dubious, yet embraced by the president, 19 Republican state attorneys general and
126 House Republicans.

Trump had insisted the court would find the “wisdom” and “courage” to adopt his
baseless position that the election was the product of widespread fraud and should
be overturned. But the nation's highest court emphatically disagreed.

Friday's order marked the second time this week that the court had rebuffed Republican
requests that it get involved in the 2020 election outcome and reject the voters' choice...

Florida Man is crying into his beverage of choice.

G.W. Bush cheated his way into the White House-
Democrat America bowed their heads, though the decision
was unjust, and the truth did not shine through. Democrat
America was requested to put America first. Democrat America
said that Our Nation, Our Country, needed to heal and recover.
"She comes first, and we will bear the insult and crime."

Trump cheated his way to a seat in the Oval office.
It was an obsenity and a insult. Anyone capable and
willing to absorb the seriousness of prior events, could not
agree, or accept the grotesque, criminal monster lifted to an
honor he should not have reached for. We bowed our necks
to the wisdom of our Democrat leaders, hoping that the law
and the Constitution would sort it out, and set all things to
rights. The system had been so corrupted by the Criminal
Monster & His Alliance, nothing could dislodge him.

Democrats put Party last, and America first.
"We will bear this insult and crime, for the Constitution is
too valuable to endanger."

We do not know where Republicans stand, because Trump Loyalists
have stolen their voices.

After Democrat John F. Kennedy barely beat Republican Richard M. Nixon in the
1960 election, a coalition of opponents plotted to deny him the presidency in the
electoral college.

The 1960 presidential election set off a political storm, much like this year’s contest.
Kennedy wound up winning by only about 113,000 votes out of 69 million cast.

Republicans suspected voter fraud in 11 states and filed suit in two of them,
Texas and Illinois, which Kennedy won by fewer than 9,000 votes.
The suit in Illinois charged that the Democratic stronghold of Cook
County had dug up Kennedy voters from the cemeteries of Chicago.

(If it was the truth, the judges could not throw out the case, and deny
Republicans justice, could they ?)

Judges threw out both suits. So the action moved to the electoral college.

Nixon took no part in the vote challenges and told a reporter that “our country
cannot afford the agony of a constitutional crisis.”

Immediately after the 1960 election, electors from Alabama and Mississippi agreed
not to cast their votes for Kennedy (...)

The electors lobbied their counterparts in the electoral college to follow their lead.

The goal was to have electors elect the president within the electoral college,
said Lea Harris, a Democratic lawyer in Alabama. If that failed, as “a last resort”
the electors would seek to switch enough votes to keep Kennedy from getting the
269 electoral votes needed for election and throw the race into the House of
Representatives.

No part of the southern “plan” was ever carried out. Most electors felt morally obligated
to cast their votes based on their state’s election results.

Kennedy won 303 electoral college votes to Nixon’s 219.

Later that year, the Senate conducted hearings into proposals to revamp the electoral college.

Sixty years later, the horse and buggy version is still up and running.

Al Gore on Republicans who refuse to recognize Trump's loss:
"It's hard to escape the interpretation they're frightened that Trump will

Trump allies eye long-shot election reversal in Congress, testing Pence

As the president continues to refuse to concede -
a small group of his most loyal backers in Congress is plotting a final-stage challenge
on the floor of the House of Representatives in early January to try to reverse Biden’s
victory.

But as the president continues to refuse to concede, a small group of his most loyal backers
in Congress is plotting a final-stage challenge on the floor of the House of Representatives
in early January to try to reverse Biden’s victory.

Constitutional scholars and even members of the president’s own party say the effort is all
but certain to fail.

(...) Edward B. Foley, a constitutional law professor at Ohio State University who has
written extensively on the electoral process. “We can say that with clear confidence.”

Thus, on the first Monday after the second Wednesday in December — this year,
Dec. 14 —the president is elected.

It’s over.

At that point, the outcome can’t be changed. New electors can’t be appointed in any state,
by legislatures or any other means. No time machine exists to undo the meetings of each
state’s electors that already have occurred.

If you have any doubts about that, watch the proceedings from four years ago,
with then-Vice President Biden presiding and ruling out of order comparable
objections to Trump’s victory. “It is over,” Biden said then.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opin...ns-win-congressional-republicans-should-move/

If even one Republican senator backed the effort, it could ensure that the partisan cloud
hanging over the election would darken Biden’s presidency for years to come.

If none did, it could send a definitive message to the country that despite Trump’s bluster,
the party trusted the results of the electoral process and was finally ready to recognize
Biden as the rightful winner.

The Rob Porter Scandal Is The Latest Reminder Of What We Miss
When Women Go Missing From Leadership Roles

February 15, 2018

The facts behind the resignations of two White House officials following revelations
of domestic violence against their former wives are chilling.

Yet it took a photo of one former spouse’s battered eye to cause anyone to pay attention.

FBI director contradicts White House account on background investigation of aide
accused of spousal abuse

Chief of Staff John F. Kelly issued a public statement lauding Porter on Feb 6,
the same night the Daily Mail made public the abuse allegations, and according
to people familiar with the matter, urged Porter to stay in his job.

Porter did not resign until the next morning after the publication of photos showing
his first wife, Colbie Holderness, with a black eye, which she says was the result
of a punch from Porter.

Porter met his first wife, Colbie Holderness, at a Mormon student event when she was

Holderness, who married Porter in 2003, has said that Porter kicked her in the thigh

A job that was once a ticket to Washington royalty has recently become a laughingstock.
Trump’s first two top aides, Kelly and Reince Priebus before him, have left as diminished
and arguably humiliated figures, unable to control the wild chaos of this president’s
White House. Priebus was marginalized and mocked before he was abandoned on an
airport tarmac. Kelly was subjected to analyses of his facial expressions during awkward
moments, repeatedly threatened to quit, and wasn’t even allowed to announce his
own resignation despite a reported agreement with Trump that he could do so.
