The President wants to build a steel wall to protect the Yanks and manage who comes across the border, and he’s shutdown the government until he gets it. Is that correct?

MY QUESTION. If it’s going to help the Yanks in the long run and pay for itself eventually, why is it that people don’t want him to build it?

Personally as long as we can get a border wall around California I don't really have a problem with Californians choosing to import more poverty than they already have. They lead the nation at it and are excellent at administering entitlement benefits so if they want to raise the third world out of poverty on their dime I'm have no objection.

Here's how I see it. Total layman terms.

He ran a campaign in 2016 making promises that his base salavated over. Now, he's not doing so hot and all of those things he promised have yet to come to pass. His base still salavated over what he hasn't done yet. Building a border wall from the gulf to the pacific is going to cost a shit ton of money, and is not needed in many locations along the boarder. He doesn't care, and neither dose his base. They see it as protection from a boogeyman only they can see. Many boarder enforcement locations are not wanting a physical wall. They do, however, need better alternatives. That maybe more sensors on existing fencing, better technological advances such as drones, cameras, increased surveillance. But he still pushes that wall. Essentially, he is throwing a big temper tantrum and American citizens are paying the price. So he thinks that shutting down the government is a way to get what he wants. Oh, there is one more piece of that wall promise, Mexico is supposed to pay for it. Guess nobody remembers that part any more.

How will it pay for itself? You can't just build a couple of thousand miles of wall and forget about it. It has to be manned, maintained, monitored. It will cost a fortune. Every year. Forever.

Democrats got amnesty once for a massive amount of illegal immigrants that had een in the country for some time, were (and still are) impoverished, and likely Democrat voters. That worked out great for Democrats because they garnered more votes (taking over, for example California which previously had been Republucan) as they expected to do. Plus the deal at the time was hey let us have amnesty and we'll talk about a more sensible program for legal immigration as well as border security. If course none of those things happened after they got their amnesty.

Democrats are Lucy with the football and Republicans are Charlie Brown. The Democrats always promised some sort of future benefit for getting there been waited a day and it never materializes. Right now they're saying from the government and we'll talk about immigration in the way that you want to talk about in the future sometime

They assume that sooner or later the 20 million or so Democrat voters will be able to actually vote legally because there'll be another amnesty. This is why we have things like the dreamers program and talks about a path to citizenship.

Republicans don't like the idea of Democrats importing more voters for their side because Republicans are selfish like that.

Democrats don't want a wall that they insist totally doesn't work because they're afraid it might work and keep some future Democrat voters out.
