When the corporate publicity stunts end, the icy waters of reality sets in...

Donald Trump’s promise that corporations will use his giant new tax cut to make new investments and raise workers’ wages is proving to be about as truthful as his promise to release his tax returns.

The results are coming in, and guess what? Almost all the extra money is going into stock buybacks. Since the tax cut became law, buy-backs have surged to $88.6 billion. That’s more than double the amount of buybacks over the same period last year, according to data provided by Birinyi Associates.

Compare this with the paltry $2.5 billion worth of employee bonuses corporations say they’ll dispense in response to the tax law, and you see the bonuses for what they are: a small fig leaf to disguise the big buybacks.

If anything, the current tumult in the stock market will fuel even more buybacks.

Stock buybacks are corporate purchases of their own shares of stock. Corporations do this to artificially prop up their share prices.

No shit. That's amazing. Who would have ever guessed?
When the shit goes south for the working class, Republicans will turn around and say "Well that's how it was supposed to go, suckaaaaaz."

Meanwhile those handful who got raises, well you know what Jay Gould said, he could pay half the workers to kill the other half...

No one asked you NIGGER

In late 2011, President Barack Obama’s White House promoted the hashtag #40Dollars to get the word out about an extra $40 per paycheck Americans would save in the temporary payroll tax cut.

“I’m not sure that $1,000 … goes very [far] for almost anyone,” @DWSTweets says.

Less than seven years later, prominent liberals are scoffing at $1,000 bonuses and pay increases that Americans are getting on top of tax cuts under the recent Tax Cuts and Jobs Act signed by President Donald Trump in December.

That sounds almost as good of a rat fucking for the middle class as Obamacare.

Isn't GOVERNMENT wonderful?

And you want to give them SIGNIFICANTLY more power and money to further mange your life for you.

Fuckin' brilliant! :D

Duh....

And his 1.5 trillion infrastructure plan? Put up 200 million and require State and Local Govts to come up w the rest. Now...how are they gonna do that? Raise taxes

And he wants to raise the gas tax by 25 cents a gallon....that kinda eats up the income tax break for 50% of the public...

He is a scammer and the right don't see it.

Someone doesn't want to have to pay their fair share....imagine that.

How is this a scam exactly?

What's happened to the billions and billions and billions of tax dollars we've already paid for infrastructure? Why should we have to pay more to get what we've already paid for?

Not to mention trillions spent on military hardware that doesn't work and leaderships who can't win wars. Of course the latter isn't entirely their fault, not when an installed POTUS starts unwinnable wars. The current installed POTUS seems bent on more no-win conflicts. But the Pentagon also can't account for a trillion bucks or so. Tell ya what: find the old money before getting any new money. How's THAT for an incentive?

But I digress. How much of past infrastructure spending was slipped to somebody's cousin's or pimp's business? Like 'relief' efforts in Puerto Rico. Remember Puerto Rico? More populous than 20 states yet left to rot while fat, unfulfilled contracts went to TeamTromp buddies.

Those convicted in China of corrupt practices are hanged as enemies of the state. What incentives do Americans need?

The same place all the school and healthcare funding goes....the black hole known as government fuckery.

Why should we have to pay more to get what we've already paid for?

Because it's for the greater good!!!

Infrastructure!!! Isn't government wonderful!!

:D

And this whole time all we had to do to make the Dems go right wing was put a socialist Republican in office.

Go figure.

NONE of that was a problem when Obama was doing it.....

You were all pro blow the great great grandkids entire life earnings for (D) bullshit and filling (D) pockets.

Post Hoc ergo propter hoc. I don't think most of you or the Des Moines register know what the fuck you're talking about.

They don't. The net increase is $44 billion. If the buy back is but double what the rate was when the GDP was growing at an anemic 1%, it should be triple now that the GDP is growing at 3%. Where's that missing 1% going?

BotanyBoy is a self-proclaimed Asian-American high speed assassin who lives in the boondocks with his self-generated electricity, self-processed drinking water and he can kill a gnat from 5 miles away. No, really, this is his life story as he tells it.

You're not ever going to get through to a delusional nutjob like that.
