Dear Editors: Do you ever foresee a day inwhich a category could be added to the Story Index devoted entirely to True Stories.

While I like well written fiction as much as anyone, true accounts of sexual adventures are simply better IMHO, and I feel I might not be the only one who feels that way.

I realize many stories are claimed to be true, but obviously are not, and therefore it would be nearly impossible to decide what is truely "true" and what is fiction. But a True Story section, while having a few fake-true stories, would encourage I think more people to submit more true-true stories if you know what I mean.

Any thoughts?

Congrats on doing a great job.

Possibly, but I'd prefer something along the lines of "Non-fiction" or "Memoir." The real problem is that the board is already flooded with folks trying to write in the first person. A "True Stories" category might appeal to "newbies" but it would also give the board even more "Penthouse Forum" type vignettes and make the first person overuse situation even worse.

Your comment about memoir is good RF.
I am one of the newbies who have posted a first person story. It happens to be both true and a little hard to believe. Of course I did polish a few parts but kept to the basic truths.

I haven't recieved much in the way of feedback on the first two chapters and I may never write the conclusion since what feedback I have so far seems to assume it is fiction.

Edited to add: in all fairness to the Lit community I must add that I did not state here at Lit that it was a true story. My mistake.

I mean "True Stories..."

I meant "true stories" -- not stories that simply use first person pro-noun. Someone can obviously write a fictional account and use the first person pronoun. I mean a category of True Stories, labeled as such, inwhich anyone entering a story there would on good faith do so only if it was true. Simple as that. By definition then, these accounts would be, for the most part, short, to the point, free of elaboration and attempts at literate writing -- because that's how life actually is. This would leave the rest of the site for those who would try their hand at fiction. I think it's a good idea worth exploring by the gods of this wonderful website.

Hubby, you would do well to read beyond the first sentence in a post.

If you had you would have read that the story I posted was true.

Read as carefully as you would write and the world will have slightly less misunderstandings.

sorry syn

Sorry Syn - I'm new here and I was commenting not on your post, but on the one above it -- by rumpled foreskin.

I will take your advice about writing to heart however. Even though I've had more than 30 novels published (Berkley Books, St Martins Press, Pinnacle, Avon, et al) as well as articles published in SPORTS ILLUSTRATED, TV GUIDE, and even the NATIONAL ENQUIRIER, and just completed a script deal with Disney, it's always good to receive criticism, no matter who or what the source.

Once again, sorry

I've got a hunch that if you ever get any "real world" ojt you'll be an okay writer, H555. :)

Working on the wild assumption that you know what you're talking about when it comes to writing; I'll regroup and respectfully rephrase my respone regarding your subject, re "True Stories."

If you hang around here awhile and read some of the stories, you'll quickly note that most newbie writers use first person. That's fine, except most literary type folks contend that first person is harder to do well than third person. I'm not opposed to your suggestion. A "True Stories" category might be fun and draw more traffic, but IMHO, it would encourage even more newbies to use first person.

I slithered in here a few months ago hoping to improve my writing, especially the "love" scenes. While there are a few good critique writers on the board, I wish it had a monitored, membership only critique forum.

Hope you keep hanging around. Every once in awhile, a thoughtful discussion actually breaks out. This is most likely to occur on the "writing" forums. The General Board serves as the comic pages around here-save it for last.
