Hello,

I am a new writer and new to Literotica. I have a short story I feel is close to being published and am trying to find an editor. I have contacted three so far, but have not received a response from any of them. I did enable the personal messaging option.

I am not sure what to expect. What have been other writer's experiences in finding an editor? Are editor's overwhelmed and not responding to requests, or should I try to figure out if I'm doing something wrong with my requests?

My story is a short story of around 2420 words in the Science Fiction and Romance genres and is titled, 'Waking Jani's Heart'. It is my take on what I call the Artificial Intelligence awakening plot.

Try PM message for KENJISATO, lit editor, I find the editing for grammar and spelling such errors is quickly accomplished by his keen eye. I have around 20,000 Microsoft Word documents returned by email in less that two to three days. If you are looking for style etc, that would be a new endeavor for him. He has remarked to me that he might look into that segment of editing.

Thanks, Ratios. I did hear from Kenji Sato and sent him my story. It's good to know about your experiences. This being my first time and web site/browser incompatibility being a concern, I wasn't sure if the prospective editors were getting my requests or if they were just too busy to respond. I am very grateful for their service.

Perhaps a future version of this website could offer a queue for writers and editors to use in addition to the direct contact method. Editors could request the next story in the queue matching their preferences. Then a message could be sent to both that editor and writer notifying them of a potential match. That way, editors do not have to deal with too many requests while writers won't have to keep searching for an available editor.

The queue may be too complicated to setup, but if not, it might make the process of matching writers and editors go more smoothly.

As a followup, Kenji Sato has already edited my story. He had great suggestions and I learned a lot. Thank you, Kenji and thank you dmallord for recommending him.

This is just meant to inform any new writer who may drop by and read this.

The editor program on the main site, doesn’t work effectively. It relies on individuals to keep their profile up to date. A lot of people added a profile but then decided it’s not for them, but never removed themselves. Unfortunately it is very low on the site owners priorities to programme in a means of cleaning out those who haven’t updated in a fixed period of time.

Posting here is a little more likely to get a response as editors looking in are current, but you need to include a minimum of information. Word count I’m most important, the category you intend it to go into, and a short piece about its content.

No guarantees though.
