Troop of Gorillas visit a camp

Yes

Gorillas are the peace loving animals :cattail:

And it's a good thing. That silverback probably stands over six feet tall when erect and probably weighs about five hundred pounds, possibly more. They are several times as strong as a human.

Image, theognis... I hate to burst the peaceful primate bubble, but gorillas, like other primates, are known for engaging in their fair share of violent territorial behavior, including infanticide. It's not uncommon.

But it was still a cool video, and based on long years of observation, some think that there's a real possibility that gorillas and some other primates, like chimps, engage in intelligent reasoning/contemplation.

That really was amazing- talk about once in a lifetime. He must have been terrified.

WHAT A TRIP!

Can you imagine how his heart must have been pounding when the silverback came so close!

Those things are just so big and cuddly! The guy should have walked right up the the biggest one and given it a big ole hug!

He was holding his head down to avoid eye contact with the silverback. I'm sure a gorilla could knock a human's head off effortlessly.

It was like the silver back was taking the kids to the zoo

This was a cool video, it seemed that the silver was babysitting the cubs, Protective and watchful.

The poor guy was thrilled but at the same time he must have been as nervous as lovecraft's mother taking a shower with her boy at home.

Really a cool video, thanks for sharing

Ellie, when I said they are not so different from us, I was including our ability to be violent as well as our ability to be peaceful, and I was also including our mutual ability to understand the difference.

I think those who believe the gulf between us and our cousins is a wide one are very much mistaken. If gorillas had the ability to vocalize in the way we do, all would be made clear, I'm quite certain.

Yes, eye contact between males is considered a challenge among gorillas.

Addressing you in my response was actually prompted by your earlier "such gentle beings" comment, and your nod to assari's description of gorillas as "the peace loving animals," not the bit about them being like us. I'll use the quote function next time to ensure clarity.

Everything is relative; I consider gorillas to be very gentle creatures, considering what they could be. It's estimated they are up to ten times as powerful as human beings in pure physical strength, and my understanding is they are normally quite peaceful with each other, and with other animals as well. My understanding is they rarely kill each other, or other animals around them, although they easily could, if they wished.

It's just my opinion, of course, but I think they do prefer to live peacefully with the world, if given the chance.
