No, not the condoms perverts. *Grin*

I got one hell of a nasty, annoying trojan horse/ worm from myspace Friday and I'm having difficulty getting rid of it. Any tech geeks out there willing/ able to help me?

Has to do with "Video ActiveX Control" or something to that effect, and ZLOB. This thing is pissing me off.

What type of Anti-Virus program are you running?

Best of luck to you....but dammit, I got excited because I thought you were going to post about the Trojan War.

Sorry, Trin. :rose:

I don't know much about the Trojan War, but what do you need to know?

Nothing in particular. I have an ancient times thread for story I'm working on...but ancient times....mythology...gods....just an obsession of mine. One of those things that your heart and soul are so deeply drawn to with no explanation.

Perhaps it's a past life.

If you still need help with that virus, I'll ask my roommate when he wakes up from his nap. :rose:

I'll take all the help I can get. I've done everything I can think of, and followed instructions from websites, all to no avail. I can't remove the fucking program that contains the damned thing, and I'm afraid to remove the registry key that I believe belongs to it. SIGH.

*Reaching for shotgun*

:nana: :nana: :nana: I got it!

Smitfraud fix was the solution. Unfortunately my antivirus deleted it as a 'riskware' problem, BUT the fucking worm is GONE. :nana: :nana: :nana:

Glad you killed it.

You might want to google and download "Adaware" program.

The small freebie program is all you need for registry key problems.

I have the full-up program now but only use the part that comes freebie. Lots of trojans/worms/hijacks when targeting the registry keys call themselves "microsoft this or that" which makes it hard to find and scares the hell out of you to kill it.

Running the Adaware it will go in and reset your registry to "microsoft default" and gets rid of what shouldn't be there without you having to worry about what or where. Even the replicators if they are replicating in the registry get zapped.

I have lots of programs which need to be in the registry and when I start them again they go back and make a key.

Its quick and easy to run, free, and cleans up your registy keys.

I'm familiar with Adaware and up until now loved the program. For some reason it couldn't get rid of this particular Trojan and I don't know why. I'd updated everything, it would catch it and quarantine it, but it was still active. I guess it kept reinstalling itself and Adaware just didn't catch all of the registry keys.

AVG, my favorite free anti-virus, also couldn't get rid of it.

Now I'm running Active Virus Shield and Spybot Search and Destroy. So far I love the way both programs function.

I learned a lot about registry keys through this whole process, though. I was able to get into my husband's computer and remove some programs that I couldn't uninstall for various reasons.

Here is what I have runing, installed on my machines and I have been virus, trojan, worm free for 3 years now.

Spybot S&D - running the resident items
Spyware Blaster - this keeps activeX items from installing amoung other things
Adaware - freebie
SuperAntiSpyWare - free addition (this is even more thorough than Adaware)
CCleaner - I only run this as a last resort if I want everything cleaned off the machine.

Anti-Virus Software - McAfee Enterprise Addition v7.1
