I received several emails regarding my Tangled Fluorescence poem.

I wrote the poem as a triolet. I assumed there'd been a thread about that particular form before, but since I am too lazy to look, and since so many of you have asked, I thought I'd start a little thread.

The triolet is eight lines long. The rhyme scheme is ABAAABAB and the first line is repeated in the fourth and seventh line, and the second line is repeated in the eighth line.

SO the form looks like this:

A1
B1
A
A1
A
B
A1
B1

So once you have two great lines, all that remains to be done is find 3 more lines. It is a fun form and I have read a few lovely poems in this form.

By the way, it is called a triolet because of the first line being repeated 3 times...

Here is a cute example I found online:

You have to write a triolet
If you would make your name immortal.
To get a form that's fit and set.
You have to write a triolet.
From free verse all you ever get
Is just another yawn or chortle.
You have to write a triolet
If you would make your name immortal.

Have fun!

My first attempt at a triolte.......

Get to bed this minute…..

She stamped her foot and shook her head
and might have done much worse,
but I raised my voice and, loudly said
if you don’t get upstairs to bed
the consequence is on your head.
She didn’t smile, quite the reverse
but poked her tongue at me instead
and stomped off with a curse.

I suppose it could also be some "copasetic persuasion".

I think you missed a rule or two. (you may have to stay after class)

"The triolet is eight lines long. The rhyme scheme is ABAAABAB and the first line is repeated in the fourth and seventh line, and the second line is repeated in the eighth line. "

The "repeat" refers to the actual line, not just the rhyme.
(you should have only five unique lines )

Sorry, Teach. Promise to read the rules next time.

I bet you could almost rework the lines you have into a reasonable one of the proper form. Go on... give it a try
