Trimming the Fingernails

I'm sure you all see why I'm asking :)

But a few days ago, I trimmed them back trying to keep them as short, neat and as close around the finger tip as possible.
Yet I still managed to catch my hand on a nail and draw blood.

Meanwhile, women can grow their fingernails longer, and still masturbate without drawing blood.

Obviously it's easier for a woman to use her fingers safely on herself than it is for a man, but I still feel like I'm missing something here.

How important is the shortness of the nail?
What about the curve - should it follow the curve of the fingertip, or is it alright to go more like 'straight across' when cutting?

What about filing the nails? I suppose that's key, making sure there are no sharp / jagged edges. But then don't you have to leave a bit of length when you trim, so that there's something you can actually file ?

Any other filing tips from the ladies, to help us guys avoid potential nightmares (on elm street) ? :)

Depends really.
Toe nails should be straight across to avoid having it become ingrown. Now there's a fun minor surgury (sarcastically speaking here).
For hands- I'd keep it simple. If you're drawing blood on yourself then they're probably too long.

And medical personell who work with babies should NOT have long finger nails. Before I get jumped, there's a reason behind this. Long finger nails harbor bacteria, no matter how clean you keep them, they do.
There have been multiple studies of infants that died after having chest compressions done on them by long-nailed nurses and doctors. Infections were a huge part of it- from those long nails. The nails cause tiny cuts on the skin, their bacteria gets in and the poor baby's terribly sick because of it with quite a few of them dying.

Sorry for the minor rant. *sighs* see too many idiots putting thier patients at risk lately at work.

don't forget about acrylic nails either, i've heard the same stories about the bacteria and babies with the acrylic nails too. Always wondered if that was true or not.

If your newly clipped nails are drawing blood it's probably because they're newly clipped. Clippers make the endges sharp and ragged. I use clippers because I can't stand filing nails down for hours. However, to take the sharp endge off the nail, you can get an emery board (nail file) with a very fine grit on it. When you use it on your nails it won't take anything off, instead it will smooth everything out. Walgreens has a nice selection. The one I use is bright pink, has a bit of foam cushion to it (not necessary) and costs about $1.

Also, if nails are dry and brittle when clipped, they can "de-laminate" and leave very sharp little slivers that are hard to spot because they lay so close to the surface of the nail.

Also, the corners of the nails have to have close attention paid to them prevent sharp angles -- you can't just clip the longest part of the nail off without shaping the contours at the edges.

I'd suggest a trip to a manicurist to get your nails in shape and learn how to keep them in shape.

Clippers are the absolute worst! its like creating your own talons!

get a good quality set of manicure scissors (if you are a bloke or a chick with thick nails, get the 'toe' ones) and learn how to use them.

My man cant use them... i am official house nail clipper... i have to do both cats, all the birds and my BF!

tho, i much prefer that than having my precious pussy shredded!

Hmm, take myself for a manicure huh?
I guess it makes sense, but I'll go reluctantly :)

Getting decent nail scissors and a fine file are an easier course of action though.

The ingrowing toenail thing got me thinking though - I'm not planning on entering anyone with my toes(!), I just don't want ingrowing fingernails either.
I guess it's tricky to get the right balance between shaping the nails really smoothly round the edges, and still not getting anything ingrowing.

Oh, and in case I gave the wrong impression, I wasn't saying that I do draw blood from women - its just that when I nicked my hand and drew blood, it made me realise I'd better make sure that I never do!

I've done toenail removals on people- I hate injecting the lidocain. It stings/burns/hurts so bad and I hate doing that to people. Better that then feeling the seperator though, I suppose. One I do don't come back though- I do a pretty good job, if I do say so myself.

And yes- any long nails, real or fake, are bad for nurses, techs, dr's and anyone else medical that works with newborns.
If there's a chance they'll be doing CPR they shouldn't have long nails.

Male or female, the best thing after clipping is, as previously stated, use a fine-grit file and gently smooth out the entire edge of the nail.

When using clippers, it is nearly impossible to get a completely straight cut without some sort of "splinter" type pieces. Once you've clipped gently smooth. Regardless of length of nails, this should be done. The filing is just to take off those little splinters that you can't necessarily see - but believe me, run your nails across a piece of fabric (any woman will tell you stockings are a GREAT indicator) and feel for any 'snags'.

My nails were between 1/2-3/4" long (from the edge of my finger-tips). When filing, I would also gently feather the TOP of my nail to help diminish when the layers of nail may seperate. As for the corners....if you have a squared-edge nail......place the file flat under your nail edge and file from the bottom working up to the edge - this helps with a more natural square-tip look while also taking care of the very corners.

I've since cut my nails down short (short for me, they only extend abour 1/4 inch from the end of my fingertips) when my BF and I started anal play.

Just some pointers (no pun in tended).

No matter what you do, freshly cut fingernails WILL have edges. The best thing to do is NOT handle your lady for a day or two after you've cut your nails -- remember, you don't have to use your fingers down there.

Noone ever got stabbed by a sharp tongue. *grin*

Generally, what you want to do is trim them down as close to the finger as possible, without cutting the quick -- and round out the cuts as much as you can -- most good clippers will have a rounded curve blade rather than a straight across one (destined to leave points). So yes, you are very much following the curve.

Here's another trick: throw a shirt in the way. A good cotton shirt over your partner will blunt the effect of your clawtips on her, and it gives a wholly different sensation....
