"You've Got A Friend" lyrics/music by Carole King c. 1971

When you're down and troubled
And you need some loving care
And nothing, nothing is going right
Close your eyes and think of me
And soon I will be there
To brighten up even your darkest night

You just call out my name
And you know wherever I am
I'll come running to see you again
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you have to do is call
And I'll be there
You've got a friend

If the sky above you
Grows dark and full of clouds
And that old north wind begins to blow
Keep your head together
And call my name out loud
Soon you'll hear me knocking at your door

You just call out my name
And you know wherever I am
I'll come running to see you
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you have to do is call
And I'll be there

Ain't it good to know that you've got a friend
When people can be so cold
They'll hurt you, and desert you
And take your soul if you let them
Oh, but don't you let them

You just call out my name
And you know wherever I am
I'll come running to see you again
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you have to do is call
And I'll be there
You've got a friend

:rose: In memory of those who died on 9/11/2001, & those who survived.
And to all Americans....at home and abroad, who rediscovered a patriotism
that has not been seen since WW II :rose:

"New York State Of Mind" --Billy Joel

Some folks like to get away
Take a holiday from the neighborhood
Hop a flight to Miami Beach
Or to Hollywood
But I'm talking a Greyhound
On the Hudson River Line
I'm in a New York state of mind

I've seen all the movie stars
In their fancy cars and their limousines
Been high in the Rockies under the evergreens
But I know what I'm needing
And I don't want to waste more time
I'm in a New York state of mind

It was so easy living day by day
Out of touch with the rhythm and blues
But now I need a little give and take
The New York Times, The Daily News

It comes down to reality
And it's fine with me 'cause I've let it slide
Don't care if it's Chinatown or on Riverside
I don't have any reasons
I've left them all behind
I'm in a New York state of mind

It was so easy living day by day
Out of touch with the rhythm and blues
But now I need a little give and take
The New York Times, The Daily News

It comes down to reality
And it's fine with me 'cause I've let it slide
Don't care if it's Chinatown or on Riverside
I don't have any reasons
I've left them all behind
I'm in a New York state of mind

I'm just taking a Greyhound on the Hudson River Line
'Cause I'm in a New York state of mind

"The Only Living Boy in New York" sung by Simon and Garfunkel
(from "Bridge Over Troubled Water" album)

Tom, get your plane right on time.
I know your part'll go fine
Fly down to Mexico
Do-n-do-do do-n-do-do and here I am,
The only living boy in New York.

I get the news i need on the weather report.
I can gather all the news i need on the weather report.
Hey, I've got nothing to do today but smile.
Do-n-do-do do-n-do-do here I am,
The only living boy in New York.

Half of the time we're gone and but we don't know where,
And we don't know where.

Here I am...

Tom, get your plane right on time.
I know that you've been eager to fly now.
Hey, let your honesty shine, shine shine.
Do-n-do-do do-n-do-do and here I am,
Like it shines on me,
The only living boy in New York,
The only living boy in New York.

Look mummy, there's an aeroplane up in the sky
Did you see the frightened ones?
Did you hear the falling bombs?
Did you ever wonder why we had to run for shelter when the
promise of a brave new world unfurled beneath a clear blue sky?
Did you see the frightened ones?
Did you hear the falling bombs?
The flames are all gone, but the pain lingers on.

Goodbye, blue sky
Goodbye, blue sky.
Goodbye.
Goodbye.
Goodbye.
The 11:15 from Newcastle is now approaching

"Emotion" originally sung by the BeeGees, and more
recently, Destiny's Child

Yeah….. oh yeah
It's over and done
But the heartache lives on inside
And who's the one you're clinging to instead of me tonight?
* And where are you now, now that I need you
Tears on my pillow wherever you go
I'll cry me river that leads to your ocean
You never see me fall apart
** In the words of a broken heart
It's just emotion that's taken me over
Caught up in sorrow, lost in my soul
But if you don't come back
Come home to me, darling
(Don't you know there's)
Nobody left in this world to hold me tight
(Don't you know there's)
Nobody left in this world to kiss me goodnight
Goodnight…..goodnight
I'm there at your side
I'm part of all the things you are
But you've got a part of someone else
You've got to find your shinging star

To me a hero is anyone who doesn't think of themself to help another, I had to work 14-16 hours a day for 44 days right after 9-11-2001, I serve on a Navy Base and I am a US Marine. My main role was security.

My contribution to this thread is a citation of a selfless act.

*GORDON, GARY I.

Rank and organization: Master Sergeant, U.S. Army. Place and date: 3 October 1993, Mogadishu, Somalia. Entered service at: ----- Born: Lincoln, Maine. Citation: Master Sergeant Gordon, United States Army, distinguished himself by actions above and beyond the call of duty on 3 October 1993, while serving as Sniper Team Leader, United States Army Special Operations Command with Task Force Ranger in Mogadishu, Somalia. Master Sergeant Gordon's sniper team provided precision fires from the lead helicopter during an assault and at two helicopter crash sites, while subjected to intense automatic weapons and rocket propelled grenade fires. When Master Sergeant Gordon learned that ground forces were not immediately available to secure the second crash site, he and another sniper unhesitatingly volunteered to be inserted to protect the four critically wounded personnel, despite being well aware of the growing number of enemy personnel closing in on the site. After his third request to be inserted, Master Sergeant Gordon received permission to perform his volunteer mission. When debris and enemy ground fires at the site caused them to abort the first attempt, Master Sergeant Gordon was inserted one hundred meters south of the crash site. Equipped with only his sniper rifle and a pistol, Master Sergeant Gordon and his fellow sniper, while under intense small arms fire from the enemy, fought their way through a dense maze of shanties and shacks to reach the critically injured crew members. Master Sergeant Gordon immediately pulled the pilot and the other crew members from the aircraft, establishing a perimeter which placed him and his fellow sniper in the most vulnerable position. Master Sergeant Gordon used his long range rifle and side arm to kill an undetermined number of attackers until he depleted his ammunition. Master Sergeant Gordon then went back to the wreckage, recovering some of the crew's weapons and ammunition. Despite the fact that he was critically low on ammunition, he provided some of it to the dazed pilot and then radioed for help. Master Sergeant Gordon continued to travel the perimeter, protecting the downed crew. After his team member was fatally wounded and his own rifle ammunition exhausted, Master Sergeant Gordon returned to the wreckage, recovering a rifle with the last five rounds of ammunition and gave it to the pilot with the words, "good luck." Then, armed only with his pistol, Master Sergeant Gordon continued to fight until he was fatally wounded. His actions saved the pilot's life. Master Sergeant Gordon's extraordinary heroism and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest standards of military service and reflect great credit upon him, his unit and the United States Army.

I'm going to try to find some civil awards.

Sept. 11 Heroes to Receive Medal of Valor

Two heroes from the Pentagon attack on Sept. 11, 2001 will be honored with the Medal of Valor at 3 p.m. on July 15 in the Hall of Heroes. The award recognizes acts of heroism in the face of danger. It is the highest award the Defense Department gives to civilians for courage and valor.

Eric M. Jones, a private citizen, was driving in the vicinity of the Pentagon when he saw American Airlines Flight 77 hit the Pentagon. He stopped his car and made his way to the impact area. By this time, the initial response firemen had arrived and were attempting to stop the blaze at the point of impact. Jones saw one fireman in grave danger on a ladder; his suit was on fire. Without hesitation, Jones pulled the burning fireman from the ladder to safety. Jones then entered the building through the impact opening and began helping people.

Steve A. DeChiaro, also a private citizen, was entering the building on Sept. 11 for a meeting when the plane struck. Rather than seeking safety for himself and under extremely hazardous conditions, he proceeded to the impact area and began carrying people to safety and medical triage.

Officer Taylor was supposed to have finished his shift on December 20, 2001 when he responded to a call of a distraught woman threatening to jump from the Torrance Marriott. The woman had climbed over the railing and was seated with her legs and body hanging over the edge. Officer Taylor forced his way into the room and ran toward her as the woman pushed herself from the railing. He then lunged forward, caught her arm in time and was able to pull her back to the balcony. The woman struggled with him, but Officer Taylor pulled her to safety and took her into protective custody.

Officer Taylor's actions represent the finest qualities of service and care. He has been with the Department since 1993. The Torrance Police Department salutes his professionalism and courage.

My heart still hurts to think of that day

Let it Be (Lennon/McCartney)

When I find myself in times of trouble
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
And in my hour of darkness
She is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.

Let it be, let it be, let it be, Let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.

And when the broken hearted people
Living in the world agree,
There will be an answer, let it be.
For though they may be parted there is
Still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer, let it be.

Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be, Yeah
There will be an answer, let it be
Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Whisper Words of Wisdom, Let it be

Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Whisper Words of Wisdom, Let it be

And when the night is cloudy,
There is still a light that shines on me,
Shine on until tomorrow, let it be.
I wake up to the sound of music
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be.
There will be an answer, let it be.
Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.

Was written in tribute last year........

"Freedom" by Paul McCartney

This is my right
A right given by God
To live a free life
To live in freedom

Talkin' about freedom
I'm talkin' 'bout freedom
I will fight
For the right
To live in freedom

Anyone tries to take it away
They'll have to answer
'Cause this is my right

I'm talkin' about freedom
Talkin' 'bout freedom
I will fight
For the right
To live in freedom

I'm talkin' 'bout freedom
I'm talkin' 'bout freedom
I will fight
For the right
To live in freedom

Everybody talkin' 'bout freedom
We're talkin' 'bout freedom
We will fight
For the right
To live in freedom

I'm talkin' 'bout freedom
Talkin' 'bout freedom
I will fight
For the right
To live in freedom

I'm talkin' 'bout freedom
I'm talkin' 'bout freedom
We will fight
For the right
To live in freedom

Other than "Amazing Grace" with bagpipes..

I prefer a more "in your face" type of song;

This bloody road remains a mystery
this sudden darkness fills the air
what we waiting for?
wont anybody help us
what we waiting for?

(Chorus)
We cant afford to be innocent
stand up and face the enemy
its a do or die situation
we will be invincible

This shattered dream you can not justify
we're gonna scream until we're satisfied
what are we running for?
we've got the right to be angry
what are we running for
when there's nowhere we can run to anymore

(Chorus)
We cant afford to be innocent
stand up and face the enemy
its a do or die situation
we will be invincible

and with the power of conviction
there's is no sacrifice
its a do or die situation
we will be invincible

wont anybody help us
what are we running for
when there's nowhere, nowhere we can run to anymore

(Chorus)
We cant afford to be innocent
stand up and face the enemy
its a do or die situation
we will be invincible

and with the power of conviction
there's is no sacrifice
its a do or die situation
we will be invincible

2x
We cant afford to be innocent
stand up and face the enemy
its a do or die situation
we will be invincible

This is the best I could do

"When Can I See You Again" by Babyface

When can my heart beat again
When does the pain ever end
When do the tears stop from running over
When does you'll get over it begin

I hear what you're sayin'
But I swear that it's not making sense
So when can I see you

When can I see you again
When can my heart beat again
When can I see you again
And when can I breathe once again
And when can I see you again

When does my someday begin
When I'll find someone again
And what if I still am not truly over
What am I supposed to do then

Please hear what I'm sayin'
Even if, if it's not making sense
So when can I see you

[HOOK]

Please hear what I'm sayin'
Even if, if it's not making sense
So when can I see you

[HOOK 2 times]

English
just wrote this

For New York City

I cried today
not for you, nor, for I.
I cried for the horror that walks freely
unchecked
and I remembered.

And yet, I see them
a circle in heaven
holding hands and smiling down.
they speak to me.

“Be strong, we are with you,
we know your grief, feel your pain
as now we sit here in glory,
at God’s right hand
and
we love you”

Yes, I cried today
and I know
I will cry tomorrow.

Ragged Old Flag

by John R. Cash

I walked through a country court house square
On a park bench an old man was sitting there
I said, “Your court house is kinda run down”
He said, “Naw, it’ll do for our little town”
I said, “Your flag pole has a leaned a little bit
And that's a Ragged Old Flag you got hanging on it”
He said, “Have a seat” and I sat down
“Is this the first time you’ve been in our little town?”
I said, “I think it is,” he said “I don't like to brag
But we're kinda proud of that Ragged Old Flag
You see, we got a little hole in that flag there
When Washington took it across the Delaware
And it got powder burned the night Francis Scott Key
Sat watchin’ it writing ‘Say Can You See’
And it got a bad rip in New Orleans
With Packinham and Jackson tuggin’ at its seams
And it almost fell at the Alamo
Beside the Texas flag but she waved on through
She got cut with a sword at Chancellorsville
And she got cut again at Shiloh Hill
There was Robert E. Lee, Beauregard and Bragg
And the south wind blew hard on that Ragged Old Flag
On Flanders Field in World War I
She got a big hole from a Bertha Gun
She turned blood red in World War II
She hung limp and low by the time it was through
She was in Korea and Vietnam
She went where she was sent by her Uncle Sam
Native Americans, brown, yellow and white
All shed red blood for the Stars and Stripes
In her own good land here she’s been abused
She’s been burned, dishonored, denied and refused
And the government for which she stands
Has been scandalized throughout the land
And she’s getting threadbare and wearing thin
But she’s in good shape for the shape she’s in
Cause she’s been through the fire before
And I believe she can take a whole lot more
So we raise her up every morning, take her down every night
We don’t let her touch the ground and fold her up right
On second thought I do like to brag
Cause I’m mighty proud of that Ragged Old Flag.”

With Deepest Sympathy

A year later we are still feeling the aftershocks of
That darkest of days.
We would like to salute the unsung hero's
who should not be forgotten.

The man that removed his jacket and gently
placed it around the shoulders of a woman
whose clothes had been blown off of her.

The many people who stood in line for hours waiting to give blood.
The many caregivers that cared for, loved,
comforted and fed children when their
parents didn't return for them.

The many that put a stranger’s life above their own as
They helped them from burning and crumbling buildings.

The old man that stooped down to help an
injured person sitting on a curb, by placing
his handkerchief against a bleeding wound,
and stayed with them until help arrived.

The thousands across our country that
held prayer vigils and lit candles.
All of these people and more gave their best
when the worst was upon us, and showed everyone
the true spirit of America.

...The bravest are surely those who have the clearest vision of what is before them, glory and danger alike, and yet notwithstanding go out to meet it.

For today...

Celine Dion - The Prayer

[Featuring Andrea Bocelli]
I pray you'll be our eyes and watch us where we go.
And help us to be wise in times when we don't know
Let this be our prayer when we lose our way
Lead us to the place guide us with your grace
To a place where we'll be safe
La luce che tu hai
[I pray we'll find your light]
Nel cuore resterà
[And hold it in our hearts.]
A ricordarci che
[When stars go out each night,]
Eterna stella sei
Nella mia preghiera
[Let this be our prayer]
Quanta fede c'è
[When shadows fill our day]
Lead us to a place, guide us with your grace
Give us faith so we'll be safe
Sogniamo un mondo senza più violenza
Un mondo di giustizia e di speranza
Ognuno lo dia la mano al suo vicino
Simbolo di pace, di fraternità
La forza che ci dà
[We ask that life be kind]
È il desiderio che
[And watch us from above]
Ognuno trovi amor
[We hope each soul will find]
Intorno e dentro sé
[Another soul to love]
Let this be our prayer [Let this be our prayer],
Just like every child
Need to find a place, guide us with your grace
Give us faith so we'll be safe
È la fede che
Hai acceso in noi,
Sento che ci salverà
