Trent had been so late for orientation that all the starter pokemon were gone and all he was given was a master ball to Gurnee his first catch would be a successful one. To be honest, he had done that on purpose, he never cared for the ones everyone got and the freedom to choose his first on his own, with any luck he would find one worth catching before his complimentary supply of rations ran out. He geared up, putting on the novice trainer back pack and the free pokeball cap, canted to the side in an effort to be different, he set out for the long walk through the woods.
Ignoring all the regular encounters, as he had nothing to fight them with yet, he sighed and looked for a place to rest. He knew it would take a while but there wasn't even a sign of anything interesting to catch that he could see. Nothing everyone else already had... he want about to waste a master ball on something common!
It was late at night and every one else was camped out, jeering at him and telling him to get lost, unwilling to share their space with a lower with no pokemon yet. He just kept walking, miserable and alone when he stumbled upon a sleeping Lucario! He checked his pokeDex quickly and grinned. She was an evolved pokemon!
She wasn't owned either! She was wild and she had evolved herself?! It was unheard of! He took out his master ball and activated it, catching her in her sleep! He made camp and bedded down for the noght, but something wouldn't let him sleep. Guilt perhaps? He knew it would be a total freak out if she woke up to find herself trapped in a ball, so, he let her back out. It was okay, because now the master ball had her dna markers keyed into it, so even if she ran, he could follow her and catch her again. She belonged to him now, after all.
He put her back where she was sleeping before, but now she was inside his tent and he needed some warmth, so he snuggled up begin her and quickly fell asleep.
