It was summer, 2000 - with the sunlight shining through the parting clouds, came hope for the occupants on the life raft. To them, the sight of land was like seeing the Lord himself - salvation.

OOC: This thread involves a few shipwreck survivors. The cruise ship Esmeralda II was sunk by fierce storms a few days ago. People were scrambling to get into life rafts, but most of them went down with the ship. And of those who made into the life rafts, our characters were the only ones who survived the power of the storm, and the fury of the sea... they floated for two days and two nights, and they eventually ended up on a sub-tropical island... With spirits slightly lifted by the hope brought about the island, our characters begin an adventure of not only survival, but also of fortune - when one of the characters stumble across a piece of a treasure map. The island was once occupied by pirates.

There was a few characters I already had in mind, and here they are, so feel free to pick any character and go with it. Or if you have a character you would like added in, please let me know. But just for the purposes of making the scene realistic, there probably can't be any more than 8 people (small raft).

The characters are as such:

Kel (Me) - 21yo Australian medical student. 5'10, atheletic, and he has short black hair, brown eyes and a charming personality. A bit of a joker at heart, he can still at times be extremely pragmatic and efficient if the situation demands it.

Cassie - 18yo Australian promotional model. 5'7, slim - 32-24-32B, long straight blonde hair, blue eyes. Cassie is the baby of the group. She's Kel's girlfriend (they are the only two in the group who actually knows each other), and has a rather quiet personality (although this could well change).

Maggie - 24yo casino attendent. 5'9, atheletic - 34-25-34C, shoulder length brown hair, blue eyes. Maggie worked in the casino on the Esmeralda. A bubbly character and tends to get along with everyone well.

Daniel - 35yo architect. 6'2, well built man - 180lbs, head of thick brown hair and a beard, brown eyes. Daniel is a cool-headed man. He lost his wife to a car accident 2 years ago, and has just started to get over her.

Kim - 40yo businesswoman. 5'4, petite lady - 30-22-30B, blonde hair tied under a bandana, green eyes, with a very calming smile. Kim is seen by the younger survivors as someone to look up to, and affectionately referred to as "mum".

So those are the characters I've came up with so far. I'm open to changes and suggestions. Hope this thread goes well. ~fingers crossed~ Have fun! (Ooh, and the story is open for scenes of bi-fun, group fun, conflict, and of course, LOVE... Awwww...) :)

Kel

I let my spent body drop down onto the soft sand... The sound of the small waves beating against the shore, and call of the seagulls was the only sound to be heard. Normally, I would be cursing profusely to be under the beating sun, but not today. We have not seen the sun for two days, and we were all hungry, wet and freezing. I wrapped my arms around Cassie and pulled her back against me, leaning forward to gently kiss the top of her head. I reached down and held her hand in mine - She was trembling.

I turned my head to the right... Maggie was already up and about, kneeling over Kim to check whether she was alright or not. The look on Kim's face was one more of relief rather than shock or pain. She just sat there, staring out at sea, as Maggie took a jacket and wrapped it over her shoulders.

Daniel was up on his feet as well, his back turned to us, staring at the dense forest that raised up steeply away from the shore.

I couldn't believe we made it. I wonder if there were any other survivors...

Mitchell

OOC: Mitchell, 5 Feet 11 Inches, 80Kgs, latino, black hair, brown eyes. Sailor.

IC: The blinding sun woke me up. I squinted and shaded my eyes from the searing sun and sat up. There were minor cuts all over my body. I slicked my hair back and tried to recollect what happened. Shipwreck, floatting, blacked out. How did I survive floating on a plank of wood???? Lady luck must have been smiling upon me.

I shoke my head and surveyed my surroundings. The island seemed pretty lifeless. I picked my weary body off the ground and started wandering mindlessly along the shore. Maybe, just maybe, there were other survivors.

Daniel

I stare at the forrest slightly thankful to have survived. But my mind immediately turning to what needed to be done... First what do we have for supplies... the need for food was reminded by the rumbling in his stomach.. the need for shelter was there as the sun beat down.. looking for other survivors needed to wait till we had the strength to do so... I turn to see Kel and Cassie huddled together and Maggie by Kim..

OOC: We need more people!

Maggie:

Just my luck. I've been saving up all these years just to be shipwrecked and marooned on some stupid island.

I looked around, see a few familar faces. I wonder who else could have survived.

Kel

OOC: Goddess, don't worry too much about the model bit. It's not like there'll be a lot of modelling opportunities on a tropical island. ... Hmmm.. just realized how stupid that may have sounded. You know what I mean. ;)

IC: I could tell from the expression on Daniel's face that he was already assessing the situation and planning on a course of action. From the two days spent a float, it seemed very obvious that Daniel was a very pragmatic and efficient man, so I guess if I had a choice of who to be stranded on an island with, he'd have to be amongst the people on top of my list...

I took a deep breath and shifted my attention back onto Cas. I smoothed her hair out with my fingers, the wet strands tangled from the ordeal of the past two days, but still fine and silky to touch... A hugged her close and rubbed my hands over her arms, sharing what warmth we had left together.

"How's my little trooper going?" I asked.

Cassie

OOC: ~L~ There's no camera, so no opportunity... good thing, cause I must be a mess from floating around in the sea for two days! :)

IC: Shivering and clinging to Kel, it seems that the whole experience is sinking in now that we're on solid ground. Kel asks how I'm doing, pulling me out of my thoughts, I look up at him, and some how mannage to keep myself from bursting into tears. I pause a little longer, making sure I have some control over my self before I reply.

"I'm all right," I say, "you're with me, so I'm all right."

OOC: forgot that I actually worked on the damn ship.

Maggie:

Somehow, I was more caught up with how unlucky I was. It was until a moment ago when I realised that I was really STUCK on some stupid island in the middle of nowhere. I felt like crying. This was really different from my usual bubbly self but I've never felt so lost before.

*sobz*

Kel

I smiled at Cassie and planted a kiss on her lips. All things taken into consideration, she was being very brave about the situation.

"Good... I'm just gonna quickly go check on the others. You give me a yell if you need anything ok sweetie?"

I reached out and tweaked her nose playfully, something that I always did to try and make her smile.

She smiled.

With that, I got up gingerly onto one knee, and then onto both feet. Kim was still sitting silently, with Maggie's jacket wrapped around her, staring out at the ocean. Maggie on the other hand, was sobbing quietly in the background, her face in her hands...

"Hey Daniel!!" I yelled. No response. The man was too preoccupied with is thoughts.

"DAN!"

He heard me the second time round. I arched both my eyebrows at him and pointed to the sobbing Maggie, gesturing subtely with my head for him to go and counsel her. He just stood there and stared at me blankly for a moment, and then finally turned his attention to Maggie and nodded back at me in response.

With Dan heading off to take care of Maggie, I was free to assess what we have brought with us on the raft. As the tide was drifting out, it left the raft pretty much grounded on the sand. In it, to my relief were the few backpacks that we managed to grab during the chaos (The one that Cassie and I shared, Kim's, Maggie's and Dan's), some emergency rations (a few water sterilizers, a few packets of dried rations and some biscuits, probably enough to last another 3 days), and a first aid kit.

Once I dragged the life raft a sufficient distance away from the shore to avoid it being swept away, I grabbed our backpack and headed back towards Cassie, crashing down next to her in an exhausted heap. I held our backpack out in front of her and smiled...

"Look what I found?"

I opened the backpack up and rummaged through it to determine what we had... two pairs of sunglasses (much to Cassie's relief.); the Swiss army knife given to me by my father for my 18th birthday; Cassie's blue hawaiin sarong; a couple of bandanas; my packet of cigarettes and lighter (which to MY relief, worked fine when I flicked the flame on); half a tube of chewing gum; Cassie's pocket makeup kit (I never quite understood why she bothered. She was already simply breathtaking already without makeup.); and the novel that Cassie's been reading - Samuel Shem's "The House of God"...

I pulled Cassie's sunglasses out from the pack and slid it onto her face, caressing her cheek with my fingertips as I pulled my hand away...

"Might as well have a good time while we're on a tropical island right?" I kidded. Even I didn't smile to that hollow joke.

hey!

could i take a small role of an island girl? it would be a strange twist...and a small role FOR NOW>

OOC: Hey! Lava Goddess, suit yourself! It WOULD be an interesting twist. Besides, nothing like a native. Hee hee... And Lightman, yeah, it's still possible to join. I got an e-mail from RolePlayMan the other day saying he can't carry his character on. So would you like to take that sailor's role up?

MM, well sure, I can take over Mitchell if you want.

I'd refer to have my own charater though...

OOC: Lightman. That's alright. You can use your own character if you'd like. We'll just write Mitchell off.

Ok, Thanks! :D

Robert Phoenix, 20 years old, shoulder-long brown hair and grey eyes.
A passionated theatre actor, and a musician and singer in his free-time, he made a few performances on the Esmeralda.
Nothing much, though...it was more a wqay to pay for his passage than anything else...though he had always enjoyed them.
He'd been happy never to perform alone though, for he is a little shy, a rather unusual characteristic in an actor.

ic:
While the others recovered from the wreckage, Robert walked the beach for a while, lost in his own thoughts lost in time. Suddenly, he saw something swimming in the water. Could it be...
He ran into the water until it reached his knees. And there swam his guitar case! He remembered sealing it off when the storm had begun to come...he was a bit paranoid about his beloved instrument. Quickly, he took the case to the shore and opened it. And there lay his guitar, untouched by the water and fully intact.
Brightening up considerably, Robert walked back to the others. Maybe some campfire-singing was in order, just to lift morale a bit...

Maggie:

I feel strong arms around me; I look up with my teary eyes and see a young handsome man. I couldn't help but bury my head in his firm chest, as my soft sobbing continues.

We stood like that for a moment, before I looked up once more, and said 'Hi, I'm Maggie,' trying to sound as cheerful as I could.

Cassie

OOC: now I feel compelled to read that book... ~L~

IC: I'm glad to see we at least have something left, though it's not much. I watch as Kel goes through the contents of our bag. I frown seeing the makeup case, leave it to me to pack something that's not useful at all. I see Kel test his lighter, and something goes off in my head.

"Kel! Your lighter, we should start a fire, if there's anyone out looking for survivors, they'll see the smoke! And I'm a little cold too, it would be nice to get warmed up."

Kevin

OOC: Goddess, if you get a chance, maybe you SHOULD go read that book. It is a GOOD book. :) Well, from a medical student's point of view anyway...

IC:

"Kel! Your lighter, we should start a fire, if there's anyone out looking for survivors, they'll see the smoke! And I'm a little cold too, it would be nice to get warmed up."

I let the lid of the lighter drop back into the closed position, extinguishing the blue flame.

"Yeah... we probably should do that."

I threw the lighter back into the bag and slung it over my shoulder. Tucking my arm under Cassie's right shoulder (and wrapping my arm around her back, subtley cupping her left breast in my hand), I helped her off the ground, and we strolled about twenty metres inshore where the sand was dry. I dropped the bag back onto the ground with a dull thud, and gave Cassie a quick kiss on the lip...

"Stay here. I'll go get some wood."

Cassie

I kiss Kel back, but hold on to his hand as he tries to leave.

"Are you sure it's all right to go alone? Maybe you should take one of the guys with you." I say, my eyes trying to convey my worry to him.

:D

(k, im in, i guess the other threads im in are going kinda slow so i can play...)

i was out for my daily walk, to pick up branches and to see if i could find some roots or something to eat. my brother had died days before. malaria. my village had lived here for almost a hundred moons, but many of them left due to the lack of food, or many of them died. my father was a doctor. i was going to take the practice over from him when he passed on. that was seven or eight moons ago. what was left of my tribe? me. my brother told me not to cry and that i would be fine, someday someone would find the island and get me off. so i put the thought out of my head as i walked out onto the beach. adorned in a crudely made sarong that went midthigh and was made of animal skin, and a cover for my torso and upper body was made out of a single piece of fabric, tattered that just covered my breasts and tied at the shoulder. simple clothing, no shoes, and it was all i had. my hair hung wildly past my lower back and was a light shade of blonde, my skin was darkly tanned from the sun. my grey eyes seemed bleak against my face. a strand of shells around my neck was my only jewelry and i had carefully and skillfully painted my lips with berries. as i walked down the beach, i soaked in teh sun and the lovely feeling of sand between my toes, i closed my eyes and stumbled upon a piece of wood. i fell to teh sand, i cursed, (i speak english and some of my tribe's dialect). i saw in front of me bits of brightly colored cloth and i was fascinated. i continued to walk down the beach and i picked up a few berries and things as i saw them at the edge of the jungle. i saw a small animal run between the trees. i darted off to catch it. i chased him clear through to the other side of the island. as i broke through the trees and onto the beach i was yelling at the animal. i was startled to see other ...PEOPLE??!? standing there. they turned to look at me. my eyes wide i couldn't move, i was so scared.

Kevin

OOC: Never thought we'd have trouble filling the MALE character roles. LOL. Where's White_tiger gone??

IC:

"Are you sure it's all right to go alone? Maybe you should take one of the guys with you."

Cassie, always the voice of reason. But I guess it only showed how much she cared. I gave her hand a gentle squeeze and smiled reassuringly to her...

"It's ok. I'm not going far. Just over to the edge of the forest there where you'll be able to see me. There should be plenty of wood there to..."

From the direction of the trees came yelling of sorts... a female voice. Both Cassie and I turned to stare in direction of the vegetation, half expecting a tribe of giant Amazon Cannibal women, with spears, bows and arrows in hand, looking for a meal.

Fortunately (in more ways than one), a young lady emerged from behind the trees, dispelling our fears. The animal skin, barefoot, and the string of shells around her neck, made her look native enough... Somewhat different than what I expected a "native" to look like (from my extensive knowledge of watching hours of "Xena - Warrior Princess" back home in Australia ;) ), blonde, with what seemed like lipstick on her lips, fairly small in stature, and definitely not menacing like an Amazon cannibal woman would be...

Everyone froze.
