Zhak moved silently and surely through the underbrush. He wore a thick, padded green tunic and a brown boiled leather cuirass. Protection that allowed for freedom of movement and helped him blend into the surroundings. All necessary in his occupation guiding caravans through the forest. He was currently perhaps a quarter mile ahead of his current job, scouting ahead and making certain there were no threats. Or at least attempting to take care of them if there were.

He carried a wood and horn shortbow in his hand ready for such possibilities, as well as two long curved daggers strapped to his thighs. During the day the dangers were mostly from other sentient beings; elves who felt the caravans were trespassing, treants, possibly even snake-folk. These were rare however and most of his job was done at night. The darkness held shifters, giant spiders and countless other predators ready to pick off lonely travelers who strayed too far from the campfire.

Knowing from long experience the day was drawing close to an end he mimicked a bird call to his counterpart on the other side of the trail, signaling for them to head back and advise the caravan master to make camp soon. He would need to nap for a few hours before night settled deeply in order to help him keep watch through the night.
