Maybe it's kind of like how a polar bear's fur in translucent but it apears to be white.

to me translucent is like glass. it struck me as odd on any level that teeth you could see through

transluscent is when something allows light through but changes it in some way

opaque is when something allows no light through


Light can be deceiving, did you know hummingbirds are nearly colorless. The colors you see on them is due to refracted light(often UV light).
