Translating non-english words without derailing the story.

Basically what the title says. Is there any way for me to show a meaning a foreign word without having to go on a tangent about what that word means. For example, in my stories I use Malayalam terminology for kinship terms, like mother or son(the most common one I use). In my recent story I didn't put any translations as to what some of them mean because I couldn't decide how to naturally translate those words -- also because I forgot.

If anyone has anyway for me to add the meaning without any derailing, it'll be great.

Agreeing with above, you can also use the same kind of technique for phonetically spelling mumbled words (ie: speaking around a cylindrical object).
