And fishnet stockings are an interesting case study. The eye tends to follow straight lines. But fishnets are composed of intersecting straight lines, in perpendicular directions! As a result, the eye doesn't know where to go! So what does it do? It tends to linger. It especially lingers where the fishnet pattern is densest, like at the knees and the crotch.
