suggestions are:

(1) go slow - start with fingers or small toys and work up

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, graduated butt-plugs (or rectal dilators) are the only way to go IMO. What makes a butt-plug superior to fingers and dildos and such, for training purposes, is that you can sleep with said butt-plug inserted in your bum, allowing your ass to slowly become accustom to thick rubber foreign objects. Without some sort of elaborate retention apparatus, a dildo will simply side back out of your tukus through peristaltic asshole action LOL. A butt-plug, once fully inserted, will stay where you put it. They are cleverly designed such that the thickest part of the plug is inserted just beyond ones sphincter. This same muscle holds the plug in place until it's removed. The base of most plugs prevents the plug from becoming irretrievably lodged in ones rectum.

They come in a wide variety of shapes, colors, materials and features. My personal preference is silicone is and vibrating. Start small and work your way up. This makes taking a strap-on much less torturous and much more likely that you will be able to take a real fucking on the first go around.

That's why I suggested that he/she would be well advised to practice with graduated (ranging from small to large) butt-plugs. Practicing by oneself is much easier than having someone else do it for the first time. You can go as slowly as you want, and the instant that you've gone too far, you can stop! butt-plugs are also nice for a beginner because they don't go in so deeply. Most traditionally shaped butt-plugs are under 6" long ... even the large ones.

I've never found wearing a butt-plug the least bit unpleasant ... assuming that it's one that I can take in the first place. Fingers always irritated me. There is something about a finger that makes it harder for me to take than a smooth toy of a larger diameter.
