Ok, so I know this is probably a really wierd question, but I hate the smell of latex, rubber, plastic dildoes and vibes. After they are used on anyone I wash them with soap and water and then sanitize with hibiclens and then air dry my toys before putting them in plastic bags to keep then clean and mostly organized. Whenever I take one out the smell gags me. I was thinking about trying a herb sachet or something. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance

It's probably because you keep them in plastic bags. I don't think the smell will ever totally go away but if the rubber can't breathe, the scent will remain.

I agree. THough they are made of rubber etc... my advice... glass dildo. Expensive, but scentless as far as I can figure.

Absolutely. I have many cyber-skin toys, and they tend to really pick up lint and such if I don't keep them away from other toys, surfaces, etc...they become hard to clean after a while. (But they are worth it, mind you!)

I tried the plastic bag thing, and whew...I couldn't stand the smell.

Other than telling you not to use plastic bags, I'm not sure what other advice to give.

Instead of storing them in plastic try a paper bag. It will allow it to breath.

Silicone ones are good. No smell at all and they are not porous so are easier to clean and can be disinfected.

And you can clean them in the dishwasher - just remember to remove them before your mother-in-law comes over!

Toy Smell

The smell from plastic, synthetic rubber and latex comes from the "plasticizers" added to the material during manufacturing to contol the hardness of product. The more plasticizer added, the softer and more pliable the product.

This is done because plastic of all kinds including latex, vinyl, polycarbonate, etc. are hard, brittle materials with limited life. Unfortunatly, plasticizers "migrate" or burn off into the surrounding air. You see this sometimes on the inside of your windshield. Brownish deposits build up and you blame your husband for smoking in the car. That is actually the plasticizer from the vinyl dashboard and seatcovers.

Storing your toys in plastic bags only concentrates the odor of the plasticizers.

The question is, if the plasticizers "migrate" will the smell eventually be gone. The answer is yes, but by then the material the toy is made from will have deteriorated to the point of uslessness.

The suggestion of a silicone toy is good. You get around this problem completely.

I have this same problem as well....my toy stinks up the drawer where i keep it, and forget ever putting it in my mouth...it tastes horrible!! I was actually watching the "Sunday Night Sex Show" with that awesome Canadian woman, and someone called in with this very problem. The best solution she could think of was to use flavored condoms with it. Unfortunately, that just masks the problem. I think that i'll invest in products made out of a different material next time.

Yugh. I agree - I hate that smell. In fact , a couple months ago now (? I lose track of time) I threw out every toy I had. I've gotten one new one, acrylic, oderless, tasteless, oh, wait, I'm making it sound like iocane powder..... ;)

Also recently got a toy made of that plastic they describe as jelly - I forget what it actually is, but the smell is definitely less offensive. Noticeable, weird - but less gag reflex inducing.

I too have the same trouble with some....but they are all in the same satchel so -I wonder- my sis came here one day looking to borrow a dress and I opened my closet an whew....

The glass ones are so unrealistically priced. I wont own one in my present financial situation....that is a true luxury I'd say. They look wonderful.

MissIntrigue, go for acrylic instead of glass - clear, hard, shiny, lovely - and much cheaper. I found mine at www.blowfish.com - a site I now adore... Mine was around $30.

I haven't shared it with anyone else yet... the guys I've played with toys with have all been pretty rough with them - and the idea of that kind of slamming into me with this thing does NOT appeal to me. If you get a glass or acrylic one, ease into this - I think you could hurt someone with it pretty easily.

...in Human Sexuality class....

...during a presentation, we were told that silicone is the one ya want. Pretty realistic, and you can put it in boiling water to disinfect it. Plus, like others said, less prous, stinky, etc...
