I was cunning.

I salvaged an old VCR.
I scraped together plugs and cables.
I connected the old VCR to the new digital TV.
I tinkered, I toyed, I twisted and otherwise teased the two devices to talk to one another.
I was even able to get the VCR to record straight from the digital cable stream.
I even got the timer to work.

Everything looked good. I'd be able to go out, see friends and not miss the TV show. It was Man vs Machine and I thought man had won.

I forgot to set the correct channel to record.
D'oh! I'm a fool!

It reminds me of the time that the StudMuffin went on a training exercise for thirty days and the boys in the barracks had 15 VCRs in the barracks--complete with threats and explicit instructions for the guys who stayed behind--and 14 different buddy's wives (including me) lined up to record every episode of 90210 while they were away.

Grown men watching 90210 with the same fervor Tammy Faye shows for her makeup is not interesting. It's pathetic. It was so pathetic that I wrote a completely anonymous opinion in the fort's newspaper about it.
