Tornado warnings on the Fourth?

We must be closer in location than I realized. I believe I'm seeing those same clouds, or similar ones...

Just tell the kids that the Thunder God Thor decided to take over the fireworks display for us this year.

As long as you don't have Roman candle fights.

Apparently, that sort of thing has become a somewhat popular activity among teenage boys here in Toronto when we have fireworks.

In many parts of the Southwest, as well as the Southeast, fireworks are being canceled because of drought. They pose too much of a wildfire hazard. :(

We have idiot neighbors who are shooting them off right now.

They've been firing them off for nearly a week.

Funny thing though, they were outside lighting them before the rain began. Hubby and I decided to pull down our little tent gazebo so the straight line winds wouldn't take it far away and we also tucked in the rest of the backyard stuff. We went inside when it began to lightly sprinkle (about the time we took the pics).

We were inside with the kids, explaining the difference between funnel clouds and tornadoes, when all of a sudden - BOOM! The massive heavy rains began.

The idiot neighbors got all wet. :D

We laughed.

The universe has no sense of justice. Fortunately, it does have a sense of humour. :D

The local fireworks have been cancelled here, also due to tornado warnings. I'm in Pennsylvania. We've been having more tornado warnings in the past couple years than I ever remember.

I homeschool my 3 children. I remember 3 years ago, my sons and I were watching a video about weather. They asked about tornadoes. I answered their questions, but told them not to worry because we don't get tornadoes. The very next day, a tornado hit a new neighborhood in my county and flattened about 3 houses and damaged many more.
oops! My mistake.

We get the occassional tornado here in New Jersey. But it isn't even one a year. More like every five to ten. But still not something to be disregarded completely.

You know it's a weird year...they had tornado warnings throughout much of the Washington, DC metro area today. They evacuated the thousands of people sitting on the National Mall for a few hours due to severe thunderstorm warnings.

Fireworks went off without a hitch, tho', and they sure looked purty!

What? You can't set off fireworks in the basement? ;)

LOLOL

My wife and I went out to eat for our anniversary. (Great Meal by the way.) We had planned on heading to downtown to watch the fireworks on the waterfront. When we came out of the restaraunt the sky was even darker than it had been so we decided to blow the deal and head home.

We made it about ive minutes before a massive T-Storm.

The fireworks were canceled and hauled in out of danger. The large crowd downtown streamed out in a massive traffic jam.

They might have the fireworks tomorrow night.
