Hi,

Curiosity speaking again, and don't you go telling me any stories about a cat, either. How does a story qualify for the toplist?

Thanks a bunch = )

It has to have more than 10 votes for its score to register on the lists.

You'll find an FAQ on the index page that'll answer that and the inevitable H, E, and W questions that are going to pop up soon.

:)

Another quick question now that I've read the FAQ ...

So, lets say that a story has over ten votes and has a pretty decent score (higher than the lowest toplist score) - does it immediatly pop up on to the toplist or does it take a while? How long does it usually take?

Sorry if my Q's seem stupid = p just things that pop in to mind and I want to know. Asking is the best way to learn, after all, right?!

RE: Stupid Question :)

Chicklet, there is no such thing as a stupid question. While I don't have an answer for you, I think it depends on how many stories they are hit with at one time. Hurry up and learn this stuff so you can teach me :p I don't think I will ever "GET" how they do the top lists, tally the votes etc. LOL

I think we'll get the hang of it eventually, chewey - hang in there with me ok? = )

Some people like to give bad scores to stories on the hot list just to bring it down to earth. It seems they are a target.

those bastards

That's sort of evil, isn't it? I mean, if a story is doing well, I don't think someone ought to go out to damage it...unless it was really super-bad and the author was getting all his/her friends to vote on it for him and no one else could stand to read through to the end = )

don't be too good

Remember the no hopers out there like to bring you down their level because they can't do or are to scared to do or try.

So we who will and do just have keep ourheads up and go for the best we can

Chicklet--the TopList generally update daily. If your story has hit the ten votes, and has a high enough score, it should appear on the list within 24 hours. What others have said is somewhat true, though...the higher it appears on the list, the bigger the risk of it being targetted for low votes. However, it also attracts many more votes, so unless it plummets hard and fast, it will likely recover.

I have voting on in my stories.

I haven't the slightest idea why.

I am only impressed with a story when it gets a compliment or two from a Lit buddy.

Otherwise the numbers have no meaning to me at all.

If one of my stories ended up on the top o the heap, I would not bother to react to that in any real way. It could be there by virtue of outrageously friendly "pro Leslie" voting by friends.

In the end, the voting process is entirely un scientific and not worthy of a person's real concerns.

So why do we use the voting function. Hmmm probably for the same reason we all pick at scabs heheh. We just can't help ourselves.
