Could someone please tell me how many votes one needs to get a story into the Top Rated Stories sections.

My particular interest is in my story "Three Score Years and Ten Ch. 4" which currently has a rating of 4.89 which would put it in first or second place in the Gay Male section.
However, so far I've only garnered 19 votes against the more typical 500 votes of the top stories.
Mind you, that is after only about 7 weeks.....

So please could someone tell me the answer - I'd love to see my story listed up among the best but it'll be a while before I reach a mere 100 votes!

30 and 60 days lists don't require a minimum, but all time needs a 100 in most categories(I think there are exceptions for a couple of the very low read categories)

Also....you may not want to post your scores publicly. There are some real tools on here who will now be off to gleefully bomb your story.

Sucks, but that is how it is.

I've read your series and enjoyed it. It was very well done. Shame it didn't attract more eyeballs.

Yep. The required break-in point for the all-time section of the HOF in GM is 100 votes. However, the thirty day and twelve month ratings don't, so enjoy being the #1 story for the year at this point.

Haha haha haha!

What a laugh!
Shows how warped and fucked-up some plonkers are here on Literotica!
(That should effectively provide a further decline in my ratings!!! LOL)

I mentioned my story as rating at 4.89....and within hours of starting this thread the rating has gone down to 4.67!!!
Very obviously some of you tosspots (the likes of JAMES "BLOWJOB" JOHNSON, for example) have decided to give me one star just to show what wankers they can be!
Clever, aren't you!
Did any of you who bombed me actually read the story? No - thought not.....

I'm impressed by your efforts to dissuade people from writing.

PS Thanks for your comment, Lovecraft68 - too late!!!

And the lesson today is:
"Don't give the details of the story on the thread."
There's bound to be some smart-arsed pillock who'll give a 1-bomb just for the hell of it.
And no, 'fraid I ain't read it; I'm not into GM stories, however good they may be.

I don't know about your story (GM isn't my cup of tea) but yeah, posting about its high ratings publicly will get it bombed. Anyway, good luck with your story and hope it gets more read. Don't worry about ratings because they're warped and don't really paint an actual picture of your story's worth.

And JBJ doesn't sound like your man. He's just a harmless troll who lost his balls somewhere around here.

That is not necessarily the result of a troll voting.

Many stories reach 10 votes - the point at which the rating is generally visible - with a perfect 5.00 and after then the voting tends to be more realistic. If a story has less than 20 votes, the rating can swing wildly if someone votes a 1. Many readers do not understand how damaging a 1 vote can be, and vote 1 just because they don't like the scenario.

Once a story has 100 or more votes it is less vulnerable to a single low marking.

While trolls do exist and do vote to damage ratings, they are less common that many people think.

But they're the ones that are most active, hence more visible to the authors.

This is correct. A story with a score of 4.89 on 19 votes is susceptible to a sudden dip on a single low vote. The OP doesn't say how many votes were recorded after his score was posted, but it all it takes is a single one bomb to drop it into the 4.65 range (which is still a respectable score).

The OP's description of AHer's as "tosspots" and "plonkers" is unwarranted.

In general we're not all plonkers, but there are some.

I have been aware for some time that a good portion of trolling comes from other authors rather than readers.

All I have needed to enforce that is make a certain remark here then give it a few minutes and go check my page. Or remark on one of my own scores or stories.

Its so blatant Patientlee remarked there was a story with a very high score in the contest and I pm'd her to edit the post and why. She did, but that person later told me they had taken a couple of bombs.

And I'm sorry if I don't buy all bombs and contest BS is solely on scouries, that's what certain people want everyone to think.

It's interesting how you can watch a story go on a steady decline after a good start, particularly when it doesn't have a ton of votes. It's one of the irritating things about the contests. All of the stories can end up as targets, and probably do. Authors with large followings of fans can generally absorb the bombs. Those without get hammered.

I'm beginning to suspect some bombing may be intentional as it does keep a high-scoring story under the radar.

Take my VD entry this year - I've mentioned this before but I tracked the votes and saw quite clearly when the bombs were sent in. They (artificially?) plummeted the score down and took me off the radar, out of the top-scoring stories for the time being.
I didn't have that many votes in total, so one decent sweep right at the end and it popped right up there.

I've worked this out since, but it's possible someone could know, or have figured out enough about how the sweeps work, to manipulate their own score.

If intent is truly malicious, 2s and 3s would cause far longer-lasting damage.

The sweep will erase 2/3 as well because they know people know that.

But that is why I have no faith in them. There are people that legit vote at 3 especially because its not such a bad score so which are good threes and bad? Worse. let's face it a 4 can hurt enough to keep a story from getting high enough to win.

If its discovered the site is erasing 4 votes than what's the point?

On another sweep related note, one thing I never understood was this.....you have stories in the 4.8's that's fantastic right?

Yet in the sweep they will move up in score. Now tell me how the hell has a story that is sitting at 4.82 been trolled, seriously? We would all love to be trolled like that:rolleyes:

So again, I have no faith in the integrity of the sweeps or the contests at all and I say that as someone who has placed in three of them.

Every year during American Idol, there's a "vote for the worst" campaign that attempts to sway voting in favor of the lesser talented. I have no idea how much of an impact that voting has, but surely it has some. If that ever happens around here, I have a few stories that could use the "vote for the worst" help. :D
