Being new, i was curious as to how many of you guys bi or otherwise, consider yourselves to be top, bottom, or you just don't care during sex. Just some pros and cons maybe, i'm a bit curious, and in my bi experiences have done bottom. Any opinions?

I'm a bi-switch. For the last several years topping men has been where the sexual heat is for me. I do like sex with women, and they turn me on. But, for me now, m/m sex is the best. I had a real screwed up experiance as a bottom several years ago and am not interested in being a bottom to most people - male of female, but might if everything was just right.

I made a bad choice in who I selected to be Top. Just out of a vanilla marriage and new to BDSM I fell for someone active in the BDSM pansexual community. The sex was great. The BDSM was great. I moved in and started 24/7 live-in relationship. But the person had a bucket load of personal problems that I could not see when my dick was hard .

It took 4 years to sort out – including a move for me to a new state.

I do not trust my abilities to make good choices in Tops.

Just a couple of questions here from an unknowledgable beginner. Does top and bottom just refer to anal sex? Is a cocksucker a "bottom" ? Is a guy lying on his back with his prick sticking up into a guy who sits on top of him a "bottom" or a "top"? I have enjoyed most of these situations, does that make me a "top/bottom"?

I have wondered about these things, and this seems to be the thread to find out.

I love women, and prefer to be "top" with them. In every sense.

For me, the bi thing is a role swap - I want to be submissive/receptive. I also really enjoy being penetrated. Very different head-space.

i agree with this. with women, i like to be in control and make sure they're getting pleasure. But with guys i enjoy being submissive and being a bottom. Its just a much different feeling.

Bob - the Top/bottom thing is used in many ways.
It can mean ass fucking - Top=fucker bottom=fuckie
But that Top=put-something-in bottom=have-someting-put-into can also apply to just about any sex act you can think of.
It is used in M/M F/F M/F and other sex relationships.

It is also used in the BDSM world as one of a number of ways to discuss power exchange, control, ownership, who-is-boss-tonight.

Like most things of the heart, it is not that simple. Here's my take (which is the correct view, by the way). Sexual activity is on a continuem. There are a number of points along the continuem where you can use the labels top and a bottom.

Entering into the broad spirit of top/bottom nomenclature essentially brings us to this: the top is the dominant person who dictates and controls. The bottom is subservient. You move far enough in one direction along the continuem and you can put narrower labels on the players (i.e., dom/sub). Far enough in the other direction and you are at missionary sex and calling the players man and woman.
