(I just realized I made a mistake with two #5's, but my back hurts, and it was hard not only limiting my options to 25, and also tough using IMDB scores as a reference, and deviating from it based on how I feel right now)

Man you missed Star Wars, Jaws, Close Encounters, Rocky, Apocalypse Now, Chinatown, Alien (freakin' Alien, man! how the fuck you not put Alien in there?), The Exorcist, American Graffiti, The Sting.

Shit, that's off the top of my head. I'm missing a few.
Every one of those can and should replace several on your list. I mean taste is taste and all but fucking Jaws, man.

You should have made the list for him. Your top list is reflective of movies I was going to list. Kudos on Alien. That movie was more impressive than Star Wars in my opinion, not that A New Hope was bad.

Chinatown is great, and I like Rocky, but I had only had room for 25. I would have put "The Conversation" and a few others in front. I've rated almost 400 movies from the 70s, but I never saw "Alien" or any the other sci-fi you mentioned.

never...saw...alien. someone get the smelling salts!

aline and alien2 are sublime...the next two films probably are best for people obsessed, like me. but both are dark and weird and wonderful.

There's a quote in a youtube I saw once for Aliens that said "the truck stop bathroom that is the Alien universe" and I thought that was a perfect description.
