Top 20 Suggestion

After checking the recent Top 20 update (yeah, I check it) I realized that they aren't really "this week's favorite stories", as some of them have just scored so well that they stay up there for months at a time.

I was thinking that, perhaps, as a way to allow more stories onto the Board, and show a true reflection of what people are reading "this week", Lit should add a new "Top 20 All Time Favorites" category. That way you could move out stories that have been listed for months, give them their own category, and make room for the new stories.

Or maybe I'm just making it even more complicated. Just a thought.

I think that sounds good. Will get newer stories more exposure, and yet still let us keep track of the "Golden Oldies". But will this entail more work for Laurel and Manu? If so, then forget it. They have enough to do.

People are starting to believe all this stuff. I hate brandy, snifters are obscene, smoking jackets are like dress up clothes for grown-ups, I don't smoke, and could you turn the dial to Gershwin or the Beatles, please?

For all those who care I'm not "The Continental". Right now I'm wearing black jeans, a UCLA T-shirt, a Casio watch, sneakers, and listening to jazz while I type, wondering if the word "pussy" isn't overused. I like burgers, fries, and long walks in the rain drinking Pina Coladas...but only if the walk is through Central Park and the Colada is from Papaya King. I'm way more West Side than East Side.

I think it's a great idea. But maybe just a top 10 for the week.

In the new scripts (on the way, honest), the voting score of each story will be listed next to its description. You'll be able to view a list of ALL the stories on the site - not just 20 - arranged by average vote. In addition, you'll be able to pull up a list of the top stories in any given category, i.e. Top Incest stories or Top Romance stories.

I'll talk to Manu about the possibility of adding a monthly or weekly toplist, which will rank only stories posted during that period. From my limited knowledge of how the script works, I don't think that would be difficult.

There's all sorts of fun new surprises in the new script. I can hardly wait for you kids to see them!

btw the voting part of the new scripts sounds cool. When the new scripts are complete, will authors submitting the stories be able to put in their own brief descriptions? I theorize that the description and the title are largely what make or break the popularity of a new submission.

For all those who care I'm not "The Continental"

That inspired one of my frequent movie musical flashback moments and I suddenly and so easily pictured Mr. DCL looking oh so suave and debonair in his tux for the 12 minute extravaganza scene dancing 'The Continental' in The Gay Divorcee. An obscure reference I'm sure unless there are other fans out there.

Oh oh. I'm not an author, but I can see hurt pride ahead. I wouldn't want to have written those stories at the bottom of the list with the lowest average votes.

Great idea, DCL. I've thought that the Top List arrangement needed a change too. Once a story makes it there, it's hard to knock it off. I'm not a whiz in math, but I'm sure there's some logical reason for that.

It's good to hear that Laurel has that in the works.

Cheyenne, if I ended up with hurt feelings about my story scores, I'd probably whine a little on the BB <smiles slightly> and then I would glue myself to the keyboard and grind out something better. ("Fuck that low score shit! I'll show 'em!)

But that's me. (I'm pretty competitive about some things.)

What about if the stories that are on the Top 20 list for more than 3 months are retired to a Literotica Hall of Fame section? (It would need a catchier title than that!)

Has anyone seen TRL on MTV? If a video is on the countdown for a certain amount of time (60 days or whatever the number is) it is retired and no longer shown so that other videos have a chance to enter the ranks. I think a similar idea for our Top 20 lists might be a good idea, just so some of those other great stories get the exposure they need.

Kinda amusing that even DCL is getting bored with Teaching Patti always being at the top.
