There has been a mild row about some old Tom and Jerry cartoons that show Tom smoking a cigarette and a cigar.

Now a correspondent to today's Times suggests that Toon characters should sue the Acme Corporation for decades of supplying products that fail to meet the customer's defined need.

The RoadRunner invariably escapes from the effect of the Acme product while the purchaser suffers pain and humiliation.

It is time that Acme listened to customer complaints.

And the Flintstones have been ravaged by years of selling cigarettes . Fred lived his last years on a badger powered respirator. It was really sad.

Of course, you will never see the badger powered respirator. This last is because of the old movie line, "We don't got to cho' you no steenking badgers!"

In one of the last of the original run of Roadrunner cartoons, the closing shot is of the nameplate of the catapult hat has been beating Wile E Coyote senseless throughout the cartoon.

The nameplate reads:

Acme Inc. A division of Roadrunner Industries

In other words, the company is run for the stockholders, not the consumer.

Sounds just like a lawsuit to me ;)
