Too many votes, too fast??

I might just be a bit paranoid, but I still want to ask.

When I went to bed this morning, my third submission had just gotten posted on lit. Zero views and the two votes stories seems to get from lits own people.

When I woke up 2 and a half hour ago I was surprised to see around 14 votes on it. Neither of my two first stories have that many votes and they've been on long enough for views to no longer rise fast.

Now it has eighteen votes, its a nice rating so its not 'troll'-action, if I understood the troll concept right.

Is it normal for a new author with a very very small and tiny fan crowd to suddenly get that many more votes on a new story? (Like say if the first paragraphs are less of a crowd-deterrent than usual for that author.)

Or is 'anti-troll'-action common on lit? (What I mean is; a person spamming fake votes cause they feel it aids the author somehow?)

P.S. I didn't put the story up for any contests. (And sure it may seem silly I'm making a big deal of 18 votes but if it keeps going it will soon match the total amount of votes for the first two stories...It just seems odd.)

That doesn't seem unusual to me. I've gotten as many as two hundred votes the first day. Not often, but it's happened.

Your vote count seems to be about average.

Did you put it in a different category? My first story, in Lesbian sex, had 13 votes. My second, in Mature, had lke 20 something votes in two days. It was quite startling.

Is the new story in a different category from the ones you've written previously?

Some categories accumulate votes with astounding speed. Anal, Loving Wives, and Incest are three that come to mind. If you've been writing in a slower category before, the marked difference is probably going to surprise you. If you've been writing in a really slow category like fantasy, letters, humor, etc., then you may be in for pure astonishment by the time the votes finish spiking on this one.

It all depends upon the category, really :)

certain categories seem to attract more readers than others. are your previous stories in a different category?

perhaps your story has hit the 'new' list near the top of the entries for today?

mebbe your getting fans?

enjoy. :)

Loving Wives, ah, the double edged sword. ;)

*laugh* That's three of us posting the same thing at the same time. Wonder how many more will hit submit to find they're crossing the finish line late, like I did.

Just don't post poetry if you are looking for votes...

Thanks for the category tips :) And the new list placement too, didnt think of that one at all.

However all three stories are in the same category: Nonconsent/Reluctance.

Votes rose to nineteen now. Two more and it will pass the sum of my other two stories united...

And the votes on my other two stories are still unchanged since last night too. When I posted my second story, I got some more votes on the first one. Im guessing some readers clicked through to see my other stories.

If my third story should be that much more of a crowd-attractor. Then I find it a bit strange that it has less of an advertising effect for the others. Than the second had on the first.

Hmmm maybe I should go check if its high on the new! list hehe.

Aha!

It's on the first page of new! A good way down on it. But it's still the first one on that list for that particular category, that could to some degree explain it right?

The title and description could have something to do with it also. An eye catching title will draw more readers as will a tantalizing description. Of course the story must live up to expectations to keep the read long enough to vote.

The descriptions, yes I try to keep those honest. But what people will find most interesting. I aint pro enough to be good at guessing it ;)

First story: He is forced by a woman who knows what she wants.

Second story: Nonconsensual fantasies can be exciting even with consent.

Third story: Nonconsensual fantasy enthusiast meets serial-rapist.

I'd guess that which one of those is most catchy depends on personal preferences. Except that the third might have a bit of a "Seriously!?" effect?

With regard to titles the titles of the first and third are somewhat unoriginal :(

Naming my stories tends to be the last thing I do...

It's like: "Ah now I feel like submitting it." oh yeah click click copy paste. "Oooooh crap I havent figured out a name yet..."
