Too long?

I have heard that length makes a difference, but not sure how much. I am writing my slut story, and I am having a blast. Recounting so many different partners and activities, I’m very excited to share! At 65, my story covers a fairly long period of time. Should I be concerned about word count? I can easily see it at 20k unless I reign myself in...but then it would not be my story.

Second question...can I mention my parents nudity, or the fact that my mother entertained men Weekly across the hall from the bedroom I shared with my sister growing up? There was never any contact or pedophile stuff that happened or that I want to include, but their behavior certainly influenced my sexuality, and therefore my story. Or do I just need to find a way around it?

I suggest that you take it in smallish chunks; define what leads up to what
and not concentrate on the sex.

20K is nothing. Many approach 100K.

Break it into chapters if you wish. Maybe each decade?

Hi there,

20k words? That's only about 6 pages on Lit. I'm working on the final part of a 90k word story I've submitted in four parts. There are many longer stories here. Have fun with it, don't leave out anything good just because it may be too long. :)

As for your parents streaking...

It's fine as long as they held off until after your 18th birthday. Maybe you could write it in a non-sexual, passing sort of way, but you'd be taking the risk it could get flagged. You're not allowed to mention anything remotely sexual in the proximity of minors. You could probably parse it as how you mother had lots of men come around and how the example made it seem normal to have something other than one partner...

I had a lot of early life stuff I ended up cutting. Looking back now, although it would have been cathartic to include it, the story didn't suffer.

Enjoy your writing process!

20K words is not long by Literotica standards. Many stories far longer than that do well in terms of both high scores and many, many views. If the story is nearing completion and it forms a coherent, full narrative, then I recommend not breaking it up.

Regarding the parent nudity issue: You will have a problem if you describe in any detail minor characters viewing their parents' nudity, because this will run afoul of the underage issue. My recommendation is to keep it very short and non-arousing. Include only what is really necessary for the story later. You might be able to do more than this on other sites, but not on this one.

I think that simply saying that your parents were nudists at home when you were a child would fly, provided you didn’t make it a sexual thing, in the same way you just mentioning that they had a copy of Goya’s Nude Maja hanging on the wall would. My point is that nudity is not necessarily and automatically sexual; the line is of course very thin and even a hint of pre-18 sexuality is verboten here.

In the same way, one could probably write into a Lit story a child being moved by the sight of a loving young mother nursing her baby, but the same child describing staring at the same mother’s breast through a window as she was dressing would bounce.

Saying that Mom had a lot of gentleman callers might fly, but the slightest mention of you as a child hearing passionate moans or a squeaking bed would almost guarantee rejection.

In other words, i suspect that it could be done, but a great deal of caution would be needed.

Context is of course everything and Laurel is the ultimate judge.

I certainly wouldn't recommend that you rein yourself in. As has been mentioned; 20K isn't too long. The big question is; Is 20K enough words?

The thing I would concentrate on is the presentation — the lay-out and format for telling all of these individual stories. This could be all in one story, but clearly broken into separate "chapters" as the story follows your life. Or, it could be broken up into individual stand alone "parts" that only tell of one part of your life at a time.

The comment above is predicated on the idea; It seems to me that each partner would probably have their own "mini-story" and "your story" is the stitched together whole of these like a patchwork quilt. If this is the case, then each "mini-story" will likely have a beginning/middle/end. It might also make it more interesting if the reader gets to see how that encounter changes/impacts you for either the better or the worse.

The childhood memory question is covered by others. Just think of a way to imply the background without erotic/sexual details

(Something like this in you're own words.) "I've always wondered if the reason I'm so promiscuous has something to do with the way I was raised. I mean, how many 'Daddies' can a kid have and not be a little bit different?" I confide to my best friend Ellen.

"Oh, your mother was wild too, eh?"

"Define wild — and I bet Mom was wilder," I tell her with a roll of my eyes for emphasis.

Wishing you success ~ :rose:

It depends on the reader. Generally speaking, a story being longer doesn't seem to hurt it at all in terms of how people rate it. In fact, if you look at the Hall of Fames for different categories, there are a lot of the longer stories or series there. At least when it comes to the ones I am interested in.

Nothing to add

20k is several pages on here and nothing intimidating for most of the readers. We'd rather take a nice story we can get into and enjoy vs. a quick undeveloped fuck session.

100k words? That's a few chapters based on how you want to break it up. Easy.

And the nudity will be an issue with underage children because there's still a sexual element to it despite not actually having sex with your mother. Don't do that. Tiptoe around it with euphemism.

20K = 5 lit pages on a desktop, about 222 pages on the lit app on a phone, and about 130 pages on a 10" tablet. Not long at all. 20K is considered to be a short story by publishing standards.

I have stories that range from 754 words to over 92,000 words. I have only had one complaint about my longer works being to long and that's because they couldn't put it down and stayed up way too late finishing it.

If your story is an Incest/Taboo story then the readers there might not be happy about the story length. I often get complaints from Incest/Taboo readers that my stories are too long, even though the lead in to the actual sexual intercourse includes sexual activity (voyeurism, teasing, masturbation etc.) or plots that are interesting or funny.

My last three works have been IT works about an aunt and nephew (8 pages), a brother and sister (6 pages), and a stepfather and a stepdaughter (9 pages) and all received negative comments about the length.

How many other comments did you get on each? If it was more than 10, ignore the complainers about story length, they are just looking for stroke stories. I usually put a note up front if the story is long and let them know the length. Since I started doing that, I haven't had any complaining.

The incest readership is very large and diverse. You can't please everybody. Many incest readers want a short stroke story, so they'll complain if you take too long getting to the sex. But other readers love a long buildup. Some of the highest-rated incest stories are long.

The key, I think, is not to worry about the number of words but about whether every word is essential. A good story can be long or short. Every word should help tell the story. Any word that doesn't should be cut out.

I did get positive comments about each of the stories as well, and while I have had other readers complain my stories in other categories were too long, I have noticed it more in IT than any other category.

I try to write amusing stories - for example in the stepfather/stepdaughter story the stepdaughter is a pop star, and there is a side plot to this story where her best male friend who is the lead dancer on her music videos keeps getting weird and twisted fan mail from a homosexual admirer, the bizarre letters freaking him out. But I find some IT readers aren't much keen on comedy and it pisses them off rather than amuses them.
