Do we really need them? I mean all they do is hang there and then get infect and then tonsilitus and then they want to cut them out anyways. Why not slice em at birth and get it over with?
~laughing~ You gonna go through all the so-called vestigial organs, one by one?
You still have a bunch to go. Once upon a time, people claimed there were 180 or so of these excess bits in every human body. Of course, that thinking is *long* outdated. However, you've got a good start on the list with this and the appendix.
Can i help? Here's a few more bits of our bodies that were once considered vestigial and/or nonessential. (EC is available to those who know the biological function of any three of these.)
Adenoids
Coccyx (tail bone)
Nictitating membrane of eye
Thymus
Little toe
Wisdom teeth
Nipples on males
Parathyroid
Nodes on ears "Darwin's points"
Ear muscles for wiggling
Pineal gland
Body hair
Maybe all these deserve a thread of their own, too, hmmm? After all, there's not enough incorrect info being passed around as it is. It's really unselfish of you to do your part for us all like this. http://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/contrib/fk/daisy.gif
