So, what do you think the tenor of tonight's MaCain-Obama debate will be?

This is how I look at it: the other debates have been very civil, but with McCain down by anywhere from 5 to 10 points, depending on which poll you believe and which area you look at, I think he will have to be more forceful. You may see his infamous/alleged temper flare, or see him resort to putting forth some highly-contested assertions about Obama and his policies. It seems to me that his campaign has gone off the rails and if only out of desperation we may see a side of McCain tonight not normally seen by the general public.

Your thoughts...?

I think that McCain really neads Obama to lose his cool and do something memorable that can be the focus of the next week's newcycle. Given Obama's performance in debates over the last year, I don't think that's going to happen. McCain going off the rails is even less likely to jar Obama, but may make for interesting viewing.

McCain needs a major faux pas by Obama.

I doubt he gets it. Remember all that talk about the long primary season and contentious race hurting the Democrats?

I think the pundits got it exactly backwards.

McCain's negative campaigning against Obama appears to have had negative backlash for him with the undecided. He's already pinned against the ropes even going into the debate and will have to look strong and sure and forceful without his anger flaring or the gap will really widen.

It's really Obama's to lose tonight and I can't don't see him screwing it up.

Oh, and McCain said he just hopes to do half as well as Sarah did against Joe Biden. If that happens it's over.

I'm thinking that the first thing McCain is going to do is walk out on stage, point at Obama and say, "This "person" is a homosexual, Muslim terrorist who molests children, kicks dogs and spits on old ladies." It will go down hill from there.

EPIPHANY

Neither of them has anything to say. Neither of them can promise anything. And neither of them has a clue how to fix the economy. They'll jabber and primp for 90 minutes, and no one will be the wiser.

I think it would be kewl if Obama like whipped out a pistol, called McCain a wasted fuck, and put a cap in his ass or vice versa. Or McCain dragged Hillary out of the audience, pulled up her skirt, and revealed the schlong everyone suspects she has.

I think you're onto something... maybe the presidency should be decided by jousting -- best 2 out of 3.

Ahh, hoping for highbrow entertainment. Good for you!

Have been hearing that the moderator intends to pin them down on answering the questions he actually asks. It will be interesting to see how much he pursues that--and whether that will set one or both of them off.

That will make three of you then, won't it?

If it was me I'd take all the condidates to the back of beyond in the Amazon jungle, turn them loose, and whoever shows up for the Katie Couric Show first, wins. Like a SUPER SURVIVOR SHOW. Obama would naturally do well in the jungle part, but no sot hot in the swimming leg.

Hell, a debate like that would work on pay per view!

Oh. You mean because he's black.

McCain has been held in check for so long, hasn't he?

He seems to be quivering with inner rage, or at least that's how he appears to me.

It would be very interesting to watch him lose it tonight.

Joe The Plumber sounds like the name of a bluegrass band.
