Tommy Lasorda dead at 93

Damn that sucks. The last time I gave a damn about the dodgers was when Tommy was their skipper. Moreso than a skipper for the dodgers, he was a great ambassador for baseball. One of the things that sticks out when I think of him was a piece one of the local stations was doing on the dodgers upcoming season back in the late 80s or early 90s. Tommy who must've been in his mid 60s at this time was out at batting practice with the club and someone screwed up laying down a bunt. Tommy stops practice, admonishes the player, picks up his bat, shows him what he did wrong, and then lays down a perfect bunt along the 3rd base line. Turns to the kid and says "that's how you do it." Sad, sad news.

In his one start as a pitcher for the Dodgers, he tied a major league record with 3 wild pitches in the inning.

Yes, I study baseball history

I like that Carly...love the old style..not this new stuff....too many numbers..too much analysts....just play the game...

I am now "There are no Hall of Famers so old that I didn't see them play" years old. The oldest living Hall of Famer now is Willie Mays.

People like Lasorda don't really become managers anymore. His style, which was basically to make the clubhouse loose, keep everyone in a good mood, and hand the ball to the starting pitcher and go tell him to work nine innings, was once pretty dominant among major league managers.

I, uh, always rooted against the Dodgers but, Rest in peace, our honorable adversary; it was great rooting against you, and even though you were a Dodger, you were still one of the greats. So in other words, I dont know whether to be sad or indifferent; aw heck, it was the golden age of baseball so of course I still feel a little sad.

Another one gone from the Golden Era.

Having said that, I dealt with the man personally. He was an asshole and treated people like shit.
