I saw in the Dedication thread that Queersetti included the Tom Robinson song "Glad To Be Gay" and it reminded me of when I saw Tom perform it.
It was about 1978 or 79. He played at the main local punk rock club. Now that was a bar that on the night there were no bands playing was a gay bar with a mostly older clientele and lots of drag queens. A lot of those regulars would still come on the nights when bands play, but they would keep to themselves mostly and keep a low profile.
But that night when Tom Robinson sang that song, all those old queens, none of whom knew who he was or had ever heard that song, just came alive and started shouting out the chorus at the top of their lungs.
"Sing if you're glad to be gay, sing if you're happy that way"
When Tom heard them he just kept going, chorus after chorus and they just kept singing along with him. It must have gone on for ten minutes.
What a memorable moment that was.
