kinda messy... Hanks is a well-respected, trusted image in the public eye and for a dental plan company to blatantly use an AI created image of him without permission to sell their products is so so wrong

Hollywood’s favorite everyman wants you to know that he’s not selling dental insurance—or, at least, his flesh-and-blood version isn’t. Tom Hanks took to Instagram on Sunday to warn the world that there’s an AI deepfaked version of him being used in advertisements without his consent. “BEWARE!! There’s a video out there promoting some dental plan with an AI version of me,” Hanks wrote in the post. “I have nothing to do with it.”

no wonder actors are so anti-AI because of shit like this

The UK, US and other governments have released plans they hope will stop artificial intelligence being hijacked by rogue actors.

The major agreement – hailed as the first of its kind – represents an attempt to codify rules that will keep AI safe and ensure that systems are built to be secure by design.

In a 20-page document unveiled Sunday, the 18 countries agreed that companies designing and using AI need to develop and deploy it in a way that keeps customers and the wider public safe from misuse.
yes, just 'guidelines' and 'non-binding', but it's the coming together to show willingness that's important as a first universal step. And, duh, of course i realise they are way behind the ball on this but it's something and no doubt open to changes.

It isn't just Hollywood. This shit needs to be punishable.

I agree.

We need a Federal law which says that whenever AI is used to generate images or vocals of a person without that person's express authorization, 3 times the GROSS revenues from the use of that AI image or vocals are royalties payable to the person rather than the AI generating person/company. Make the burden on the AI generating person/company to produce the authorization.

Basically if someone uses AI to impersonate anyone they're subject to paying the real person all of the gross income from that impersonation times 3. (Which is the standard punishment for fraud - 3 times damages.)
