Tofu

TOFU

should have a label saying
"WARNING WARNING Is not meant for human consumtion!!"

I have to agree...ewwwwwwwww

My son who was allergic to everything was convinced to try tofu, so as the good mom I thought I was, I tried it(just so he could see that I would like it too)...I threw it in the garbage and told my son there was nooooo way he was gonna eat that stuff!

The Koreans have some vastly interesting recipes involving tofu. Of course, they're the people who brought us kimchi.

I've never eaten it, have not intention. I'm about as strictly carniverous as a salad lover can get. Raw steak cut into pieces with a lovely salad on the side and a tart basalmic vingiagrette. Mmmm.

I like a hot, spicy, Korean soup that has both tofu and meat in it. Other than that i can't stand the stuff.

Here is a recipe your whacked out roomie may enjoy

Tofu Steak

24 oz (685g) firm tofu
Salt and pepper
Flour for dusting
1 Tblspn salad oil
1 chili pepper
2 Tbspn yang nyeom jang (follows)
Enokitake mushrooms, small green peppers, chinese cabbage kimchi (follows) for garnish

*Tofu draining time depends on the type of dish, but generally it is pressed down to 2/3 thickness. A chopping board makes a good weight.
*Soak dried chili pepper in lukewarm water with a few drops of vinegar ahead of time.

1. Wrap tofu in a cloth and press under a 4 pound weight for 20-30 minutes.
2. Cut tofu in half, then turn each piece on it's side and cut into half thickness. You will have four pieces.
3. Sprinkle salt and pepper over one side.
4. Coat with flour on all sides and shake off any excess flour.
5. Heat oil in a skillet and add tofu. Cook over medium heat.
6. Cok on both sides until golden brown.
7. Spoon chopped chili pepper and yang nyeom jang. Remove from heat. Saute garnish ingredients of your choice and season with salt and pepper. Trnasfer to a warmed plate and sprinkle with chopped chives or thinly sliced green onions if desired.
