Today's Highlight in History:

On March 19, 2003, President Bush ordered the start of war against Iraq. (Because of the time difference, it was early March 20 in Iraq.)

==

After five years, 500 billion dollars (so far) and 4000 American military killed in action (so far) we're still there, still shelling out billions, still burying our dead.

All joking aside, the entire situation makes me sad and angry at the same time.

That's 100 billion a year or roughly 2 billion a week, huh? So figure a billion every 3 and a half days or about a third of a billion a day, roughly, a little less, maybe about 300 million a day.

300 Million dollars a day into that suck hole. How much health care is that? How much energy research is that? How much investment in education is that? Or paydown of the national debt? How much cancer research and AIDS treatment?

What have we gotten for our money? Someone tell me. Just what have we gotten?

John McCain in a sports shirt And Dick Cheney telling us to stay the course. The Biggest fuck up in American foreign policy history. The biggest waste of life and treasure this nation has ever seen. A new base for Al Qaeda where there wasn't one before. Thousands of recruits to our enemy's cause where there weren't any before. Millions of new enemies around the globe. A loss of reputation, a loss of face. A fucking quagmire, VietNam II.

Well, it did succeed at one of its original intents. The instigators of this war will have a prominent place in the history books. Just not the one they hoped for. ;)

It may yet succeed at the other original intent. It may end up overturning the international law structure that's kept thing fairly calm since the end of WWII. If that happens we'll be back to the gang warfare that characterized international relationships before WWI. And this time all the gangs will have weapons of mass destruction.

Oh joy. :eek:

Clearly, bankers lives have a higher value...

Sub-prime cost: 82bn$
Homes lost:250,000
Bankers lives lost: 0
