Sorry…couldn’t help passing along a hint to today’s Wordle.

Spoiler!

Fortunately, I'm up at midnight and usually hit it seconds after. I got it on the sixth try because my usual clue words were... uh... clueless. So I spent the rest of the puzzle trying to find letters. Two 'F's was a killer.

I blew my streak of 40-something on yesterday's. I could simply not process that there were two 'E's, with one the first letter.

Their stats suck as far as I'm concerned. I can't believe for a second the percentage reported of success on the first guess, or even the second. They've got to be cheating by parroting the hints/spoilers, or using solver apps. Harrumph! "You know, folks, the idea here is to work your vocabulary!"

Makes me think of a girlfriend who cheats at Scrabble by changing the rules mid-stream. We have fun, but she always has to "win". The things I'll put up with! 😁

My first two guesses are always PIANO and REBUS. Mostly I'll have enough letters then to guess the word by the third or fourth try. But today it took all six.

I definitely thought it was FILTH…

If it happens that way, sometimes I'll try dirty-ish words, like HORNY or PENIS. I don't recall if either was accepted, or got a "Normally not a word considered for Wordle," something I've seen on a few occasions.

I'm not going to give away my two "starter" words. They are derived from my knowledge of frequent-letter use from a career in typography, plus some long-ago dabbling in code-breaking. This strategy does tend to fall apart for words with infrequent letters or odd combinations, like EAGER, yesterday's word.

Already you've got me coming up with potential story titles: "Scrabble-Cheating Anal Enchantress."

I agree with you about the excess of correct first guesses. It's probably cheating.

I whiffed on my third word choice today but recovered and got it in five, below par but oh well.

Yes, I got Eager on the sixth try yesterday. Today the word jumped out a bit more for whatever reason…haha.

Four here, as well. I had four out of the five letters with my two seed words, but none of the confirmed positions.

Only one possible solution after my second, but I couldn't see it.

Okay…I’m two tries in and have 3 of 5…we’ll see how this goes knowing Lit authors should have a built-in advantage 🤔

It took me five tries to get today’s Wordle. It seemed very appropriate for this site - GOOEY.

Shame on you. Our Wordle players who haven't logged-in yet can't unsee that. There goes the observation that the overall statistics are bogus because the odds of chancing into the solution with the first word are astronomic. Mine hasn't happened... yet.

Yeah, today's took me six tries, to quote, "Whew!". Just trying things, my fifth word was "ZOOEY", which surprised me that it is a real word. It could've been "HOOEY" had I not had 'H' upstream. There are not a lot of 5-letter words that have 4 vowels. You know, A E I O U and sometimes W and Y.
