I got hit last night in my two highest rated stories. Both near the top of the first first page of the Top List in their respective categories.

And I don't care! (blows huge raspberry at the trolls)

The W isn't going away on one of them and both have collected tons of positive comments, many by people whose opinions on literary work I will take quite seriously.

So piss on ya! You trolls are supercilious little jerks with tiny egos, unable to do anything useful. Correction, you would make good landfill.

Neener, neener, neener!

I had the same problem as soon as soon as they were announced. I figured it was people reading it and thinking 'how the f**k did they win with all those spelling mistakes?' :D But - too late, can't take it back, na na :cathappy:

To heck with all of them. I'm glad neither of you let the idiots win.

Rob! Congrats on your story being one of the contest winners. I think its great... and you're a pretty good guy too! :rose:

I know the feeling. :D

I guess less than an hour after they announced the halloween winners last year I got bombed into oblivion, and it's just now climbing back into the respectable range, but I don't care. :p

Good for you!

It's a great feeling to watch something climb, climb, climb, genuinely.

That's yours.

Then you know that the fall was false and fast and that was theirs.

The climb you get to keep. You wrote it. People really liked it, and that's yours.

I'm proud of you and happy for you :)

I've never won anything, probably never will ...

No W's for me ...

No elusive E's ....

But yet the trolls still hit.

No clue why ... someone just trying to destroy what I built? Someone trying to tear down that part of me that is vulnerable enough to reach out and take a chance? Someone jealous?

Probably all of the above . .. maybe none of it.

Sure, it hurts ... I poured my heart and soul into most of those stories (sure there are some that I threw up for the sake of a contest or to satisfy a reader/fan's whim) but for the most part, those storiees are ... ME.

The comments matter to me ... the REAL comments ; not those snide remarks that come from the same people that didn't have anything better to do than bomb my work just because they could.

Maybe I'm too sensitive?

I just wrote to Laurel asking a question about all this, because I was getting sick of the same guy coming in just to give me a 1 and say how much shit he thought my latest story was. The way it stands at the moment, you can delete the remark if you so wish. However, I asked if it would ever be possible to actually stop those that place these comments from actually seeing any stories that I put out. It would be like placing them on ignore, as yet she hasn't answered that question.

I would bet my left nut that it's not possible, which is a shame because once these jerks knew what could happen it would do one of two things. It would stop them from doing it completely (Not likely, but possible) or it would force them to actually make a constructive critism (although that would mean using a few more braincells) which as we all know are not used that often. lol

RG I feel for ya son....

been there done that....

My two little W's are so far into oblivion that they may never see the light of day again... score wise, but i know they are there and that's all that matters...

If ya let trolls get to ya then they win... if not then they are just a waste of time and space....

Keep up the good work and ignore the trolls.... everyone else knows better...

I dont read here as much as I would like, what exactly is the definition of a troll?

A troll will only ever try to incite anger, or mess with scores etc. They have no other agenda other than to mess with whoever takes their fancy on any given day. It will always be a mystery to me just exactly what they get out of it, and the only way to handle a troll on the boards is to ignore them completely. Personally, I place them on my ignore list straight away, I have no tolerance for stupidity.

As far as story comments go, I'm guessing in most cases it's someone who objects to smut (as they would put it) and wants to see you fail.

A troll is an individual who deep inside wishes he/she could create... but they cannot, so alas, they settle for creating destruction.

You left out one important thing. A troll or two can make sure that an author never wins a monthly or contest prize. Placing a troll on ignore does not make that go away.

Well, I think like a parent.

They're like kids that come to the dinner table.

You cook what you have a budget for and a talent for making.

They can only digest what they like.

That's all. It's not personal.

They're the hungry ones, it's really not your problem.

If you wish to think like a host, then the most gracious guest leaves the kindest compliment, and sometimes you are visited by a dignitary that leaves the best dinner conversation regarding your simple fare.

Sometimes, though, it's just your brat kids :)

Cloudy, you might want to PM Laurel about that- EVEN THOUGH it's a year later. I've never had a story get even close to a win of any sort.. but I've noticed other people here saying they've gotten one-bombs removed.

Cyn hunny, the trolls picking on your stories are simply stupid. I just read three of your stories, all three had "trollish" comments left on them, and all three were undeserving of those comments.

Ignore the trolls.

Thanks all, I had a feeling. Im just not one of the creative bunch, but not destructive. I am not a poet, but understand the effort it takes to create.

Trolling is the supreme badge of honor. I wear it proudly and decline to have my troll votes removed. I prefer to smile at their open acknowledgement that they can best me in no other way.

Whatever satisfaction they may derive from it, I leave to them. Who would refuse them the paltry thing? I am sorry for them. They will never know half the joy I do when I read a line of mine that I think well written.

I'm there with you except...

It's like this... a troll gets so much pleasure from attacking the creation of others, from assaulting that which he can never do.

If you think about it, that's really sad... it's a courtesy to give them the loose change in my pocket.

Sincerely,
ElSol

Agreed. And the same to the ones who use it to boost their own stories' rankings. If that's the best they can manage to prop their ravening egos, I couldn't possibly deny them it.

 Thanks Aliyah  I wuv u!

I finally edited some of the "trollish" comments ... I got tired of seeing them just sit there (I tried to be a big girl and just ignore them but you know ... *shrugs*)

Get 'em boo! My 'W' story has taken about a half dozen hits so far, and keeps creeping back up on the trolls, they're just ain't enough of them, hahaha.

I do, however, argue against utilizing untreated excrement as landfill material.

Nope. Only refusing to do contests makes that a non-issue.

I am not sure what you mean here. However, a few determined trolls can make it impossible for an author to win a theme contest or monthly contest. Of course, the author can disallow voting, but I refuse to let trolls stop me from entering my stories for evaluation. The worst part is that I an sure that the low votes that readers see initially cause the non-troll readers to lower their votes, at least in some cases.

I hate trolls!!! Sorry!

I saw that sort of thing happen in the contests I entered on Lit. So what I do now is, I just don't enter contests. That's what I meant by that. It's only by not entering contests that you avoid the phenomenon.
