no shitting; how tone-deaf does a senator have to be to be a republican?

too many homeless? build more fucking housing!

Tennessee state senator on Wednesday used Adolf Hitler as an example of inspiration and hope for the homeless during a speech on the floor of the state’s upper chamber.
“Hitler decided to live on the streets for a while. So for two years, Hitler lived on the streets and practiced oratory and his body language and how to connect with the masses, and then went on to lead a life that got him into history books,” he said.

“So a lot of these people, it’s not a dead end. They can come out of this, these homeless camps and have a productive life..."

Hey butters,
It's pretty obvious this Tennessee State Senator has his head shoved up his own rectum. He not only glorifies Hitler, he wants to criminalize homelessness displaying a gross lack of knowledge of the US Constitution, specifically the 13th Amendment, which abolishes "debtors' prison" a.k.a. "involuntary servitude" in all U.S. jurisdictions. And most of the homeless are homeless because they are indebt.

However, as much as I wish it was as easy as building more housing, it's a much more complicated problem than that. And it's a very, very old problem, which is going to get worse.

A congress critter recently said that the "homeless should just go home"
:cautious:

The GOP has mainstreamed authoritarianism, and not just in the state houses. The fact that they have not expelled Nazi and white supremacy sympathizers from their political party, while at the same time censuring Republicans who support the investigation of the January 6th insurrection attempt, shows how much they value the authoritarian portion of their political base.

The GOP hates the democratic and human rights principles of America, and is actively working to undermine these principles. Following the Trump experience, they now see this approach as their best, and perhaps their only, option for obtaining and retaining power.

Neither party says anything practical about homelessness because they don't see money or votes there.

The housing built now is mostly short term housing with long term loans, because high quality materials aren't available anymore in sufficient quantities. The most severe cost cutter is green wood in the walls, which rots and the house falls down in approximately 10 years. So more housing won't solve anything.

As fuel gets more expensive, suburban sprawl will stop and reverse. Homes will get smaller. Stripping the suburbs to repair the urban cores and small towns is one of the big projects of the next few decades.

That's a gross exaggeration.
  • One party favors funding and support for family planning, birth control, and control of population growth. The other party opposes all funding for family planning and foolishly acts as if every fertilized human egg has more social priority than people who are already out of the womb and are struggling and homeless. The housing crisis is a supply and demand issue. Reducing population growth and housing demand will be helpful.
  • One party favors supporting a living wage, so that lower and middle class people can afford housing. The other party has opposed every single wage increase proposal brought before Congress during the past half century.
  • One party supports policies that support health, childcare, and educational services for the middle class, so that men and women can direct their income toward food and housing. The other party says it's a dog-eat-dog world, and the middle class should be satisfied with what trickles down from the uber rich, who dictate to the other party federal policies that enrich them even more.
  • One party supports the people who see middle class housing as a basic necessity. The other party supports the people who see middle class housing as an investment scheme they can manipulate through lobbying efforts to produce guaranteed profits.

Even as we speak the camps are being readied in Alaska to receive the huge influx of registered Democrats identified after the 2024 pseudo-election. A few years in a gulag, building roads to nowhere, will be the supreme education on how well taxpayer funds can be spent.

As a bonus, all those emptied out McMansions can be converted to homeless shelters....

That's a fantasy list for a wealthy nation that the USA is not anymore. Population control attempts generally fail, but death by vax may run up some numbers. Living wages that take years to debate won't keep up with inflation. Being self-employed is becoming the only way to work at current costs of living. The middle class is a vanishing minority. Homeless especially are unlikely to identify as middle class.

One of the bigger changes coming could be dropping the imported European notions of land ownership. As nomadic herding replaces farming on the prairie, portable homes (tents, tipis, wigwams, yurts, etc.) may become more common than houses.

And yet the highest density of the homeless population exist in democratically run blue shitholes, San Fran comes to mind, you know, Nancy's back yard.

Rep. Nancy Pelosi doesn’t run San Francisco. You need to learn how governments work.

Apathy is bullshit

In other words, where there are more people and more publicly available facilities (libraries, fast food places, etc.) and where the cost of living is the highest, there are more homeless people. Duh.

It’s her district and she wields a lot of power as speaker. I never wrote that she ran SF, so don’t suggest that either. It’s also the bluest of shitholes.

There are more homeless because of mismanagement

Yes, which can mostly be traced back to decades of Republican administrations cutting aid to cities, as well as tax cuts that have starved public services.

You must think that she ought to be pulling more than a fair share of federal support and funding, so that San Francisco won’t be a shithole.
But what would you bitch about then?

I forgot how much Dem opinion and policy is controlled from a few coastal regions, where middle class office workers may be homeless because rent is insanely high. That is a state and local issue that can't be solved with national policy. The TN state senator may be nuts or drunk, but he is at the right level to be talking about a state issue.

I’m sure being a sanctuary city, diverting funds away from internal problems to support illegals is a wise decision. Democrat policies are the blame. The first problem is Dems won’t own up to how bat shit crazy their own policies are. Blaming republicans is your typical response. Dems are in the hot seat and things are getting worst. Biden is in the hot seat and he has proven to us all that he’s an incompetent foo, he’s in the blaming business himself, Putin is the reason for everything that ails America but we really know it’s Biden’s dumbass policies. Things won’t change till (D)s look inward at their own misguided policies and think America first.

No, they have enough funds they just spend it on the wrong shit. They tax people to oblivion and still can’t seem to fix problems because they’re incompetent and too woke to see straight. maybe straighten out their justice system and put criminals in jail and get them off the street.

Haven't heard Biden blame him, except maybe about gas prices. For once, the president is not making use of the ever-popular tactic of using war fever to divert attention from domestic problems.

One has to wonder why. If it could make a moron like George W.M.D. Bush reach 90% approvals, imagine what it could do for Biden!

Here's something: How about we leave the homeless the hell alone? They have the right to use public spaces the same as every one else.

Most of them are mentally ill and the unintended consequence
of the direct actions of those who though that institutionalizing
the mentally ill was a cruel and terrible thing to do, so they just
up and free-ranged them. Hell, they don't hang out in the more
upscale of neighborhoods. Those habitats have adequate paid
preventative police protection.
