Dick Grayson, formerly known as Robin, now known as Nightwing, stood in the tower that had been his home for the past few years. He was waiting for the other Titans to return from a mission. He had been told by his teammates that if he didn't take the time off, they'd tie him to a chair and ship him someplace where he wouldn't be able to do anything but relax. So there he was, worrying about his friends. His mind drifted over the events of the past few years. He had met, fell in love with, and almost married an alien princess. Of course, giving in to Batgirl's attentions had ruined that. But life goes on, or so The Flash would have said. Of course, The Flash would also have told them all that the problem with an eye for an eye was that everybody ended up blind. The older man was unique in his views, especially among the Justice League members. Dick had left the care of Batman after witnessing how far Batman was willing to go to collar the bad guys. When Dick's former mentor had demanded the return of the Robin outfit, Dick had wandered aimlessly, comforted only by his friends in the Titans. It was Superman who had given him his new persona, and drive for justice. But Dick still took things too seriously, according to his teammates.

He wasn't the only one on vacation. Supergirl was at the mall, as far as he knew. He decided to give her a call.

OOC: post away

Blackfire flew over the city, her violet hair swishing in the wind.
She sighed, once again the Titans had gone out on a mission and SHE had not been invited, she knew it was for her own safety but she thought herself completley capable of looking after herself.

There were many old broken alliances that would like to see her dead, or captured. And that's why the oher's guarded her so closely. She had to escape from their headquarters, she would have screamed if she had to stay there a minute longer.
she just hoped that Dick wouldnt find out, or any of the Titan's for that matter, foe now she was going to enjoy her freedom.

Kara was at the mall, one of her favorite places for observing humanity. She sat in the food court with a fruit smoothie and a new book only half observed in her reading as most of her attention was taken by the passersby and their sometimes dark and dishonest behavior. Her game was trying to read more into their actions and to try to imagine the sort of lives they may have come from or motivations for the things they say and do.

She was totally absorbed in this study of those around her until she felt a vibration in her pocket, her mobile phone. Someone was trying to contact her. "Hello?" she asked, answering in her nicest phone voice.

OOC: Ok, initiate me a little please. Who's calling her? Anyone want to rp with me?

Dick smiled, then considered what to say. He decided to ask her what the mall had for new clothes. "Hey, Kara. Find anything interesting at the mall? I'm thinking of picking up some new boots."

"Oh, hi, Dick!" said Kara cheerfully recognizing the voice immediately. "Well, there's a great shoestore here you could maybe find some boots for yourself in. You want to come shopping with me or did you call for something more important?" she asked, already moving away from the food court and toward the doors leading to the mall parking lot.

Dick sighed, then considered how to answer her. "The others have insisted I take a vacation. They said I've been doing nothing but working since Star left. The only problem is, vacations are boring. Any ideas for something to do that doesn't involve fighting crime?" He listened to the voice at the other end, finding comfort in Kara's cheerfulness.

Kara thought about this, getting into her car and starting it. "I'm coming over. Maybe we can find someplace nice to go for the weekend. I'm a little bored lately myself."

Dick raised an eyebrow. "Car?" The thought of Kara using a car seemed a little odd to him. Then again, so did the idea of Superman taking the bus, which is what the older hero did to get to his day job. He shrugged, then smiled. "The others are out on a mission. Not sure when they'll be back. I'll be waiting outside."

Kara arrived at Dicks fairly shortly and saw him sitting out on the porch steps. She approached and joined him on the steps, a friendly smile on her face. "So...did you have any ideas for what you'd like to do this weekend?" she asked.

Dick shrugged. He had changed into some rather old normal clothes, so he didn't stick out too badly. He looked out at the city, and sighed. "I'd like to be fighting crime, but the others insist I 'have fun'. I've got no ideas right now. And I've just realized it's been so long since I had time off that I don't remember what I did last time."

Kara took him by the hand and pulled him to join her, walking to the car. "Come on, let's go to a movie. When was the last time you joined the civilians of this planet and watched a simple movie?"

Dick blinked, then nodded, following Kara to her car. He was even more surprised at the kind of car than he had been at the fact that she was using one. He raised an eyebrow, looking from the car to her, and back again.

"What?" she asked as she saw his reaction to her clunker. "Look, I needed a car to get around in this town but I wasn't about to go out and get the flashiest thing I could find when there might be more important things to spend money on, like charitable causes, so I got a used one. It's good on gasoline, it's reliable...so it's not the best looking car in the world, I don't mind." she rationalized.

Dick shrugged. Then he climbed into the passenger seat. He waited for Kara to get in, and put on his seat belt. "So, what movies are playing today? I haven't been in a movie theatre since the one Bruce's parents were killed in front of. He took me there with some roses on the anniversary of their death."

He bent down and stared at the smoking engine in awe. "What the hell?" the engine responded by creaking and sending a powerful fart of black smoke out of its tailpipe. Crossfire coughed and swished the smoke away from his face, shaking his head in disbelief at the setback. He took off the heavy leather jacket and layed it on the motorcycle's seat. He took out his cellphone and called AAA. He could take apart a gun and reassemble it in a second, but he knew nothing of vehicle mechanics.

While he talked with a rather smug woman over the phone, he fiddled with the several guns that were on his person. An old-style gunslinger belt held two colt .45, his jeans hid a midnight special that was strapped to his leg, and a pistol in one pocket with a silencer in the other. He had several rounds of ammo tightly locked into place on his boots, and in the backpack on the ground was a sniper rifle in about 6 pieces, more ammuntion, a tool kit, some important papers, a lukewarm six-pack of cheap beer, and a carton of expensive cigarettes.

He brushed his black hair out of his stony grey eyes and wiped his face on his black undershirt. An arrow head hung from his neck on small chain and jingled softly as the wind picked up. He hung up with the woman as she assured him that a truck was on its way to tow him into town. He leaned back on the cycle and pulled out a beer, popping the top, taking one large sip and grimacing. "I shoulda put em in a cooler I guess." he said, mostly talking to himself as he took another sip. His head leaned back as he stared into the sky, the sun mercifully hidden by a stationary cloud.

Jump City was as active, hectic and confusing a place Rampage had ever been to, the hustle and bustle and sheer energy of the people around him as they went about their daily business making his head spin. Feeling very overwhelmed as he made his way down the streets the numerous odd looks, stares and a few outright oogleings were lost on the oblivous teen. The reason for them however came from his attire he was wearing nothing old torn jean shorts that looked to be on their last legs, everything else was bare chest, legs and feet all exposed and showing off his muscular body quite nicely for those who cared to look. He however was still lost in his own explorations and didn't notice the attention he was recieving as he gazed up at the massive buildings with awe.

The opprotunity for sightseeing was cut suddenly short when a resounding shriek filled the air that was quickly drowned out by sound of squealing brakes. Quickly looking around Rampage seen the cause of the disturbance, a tanker truck was swerving out of control down the main street behind him the tank on the back reading in clear red letters 'FLAMMABLE'. The squeal of the brakes now shifting to the sound of grinding metal the whole truck over turned and slid into the front of an establishment named 'Ed's Pizza', the front of the building seemed to stop the sliding truck and for a moment all was quiet as it appeared that the disaster had ended. But in the next moment the whole scene burst into flames, luckily there was no explosion but the whole front of the building was engulfed in moments. As the cries of panic and terror filled the air Rampage was already running like mad towards the accident his body drasticly shifting in size and dimension as he went.

Upon reaching the vehical he could already feel the intense heat, leaping over the flames surrounding the truck he landed on it's side reaching down he grabbed the door to the drivers' cab and tore it off the driver unconcious but breathing was trapped by a collapsed seat taking firm hold of both the seat and driver he strained and pulled both from the burning vehicle. Jumping once again clear of the flames, he set down the chair only to find people yelling at him loudly, "There are still people in the building! They're trapped by the fire!" Looking back through the waves of heat he could see people huddled at the back of the building through the shattered glass of the front window. Again without a word he ran back but this time instead of jumping the flames he ran right into them up to the overturned underside of the truck, taking firm hold of the burning metal he started pulling slowly with a metal creak the truck started to slide across the ground away from the now burning building. As he pulled the heat and fire had now blackened his hands, forarms and legs, by the time he'd gotten the truck to the center of the street seconds later a loud rumble reached his ears. "Oh god, the front of the building collapsed, they can't get out!!" He heard someone shout deciding that the tanker was now safely away from anything else Rampage jumped it and ran towards the building hoping he wasn't too late to save those inside....

Kara and Dick had been stuck in traffic when they saw the accident about half a block ahead of them. Unable to get through to help because of the gridlock and the panic, Kara took one look at Dick and they both made a split second decision.

It was not difficult for her to change into Super-girl from her street clothes, she stripped quickly and flew from the driver's side window into the air to get a better look at the damage from the accident. Another was saving the victim in the burning car but she could see the building hit by the vehicle was in flames and collapsing. People inside, must help them! she thought, seeing through the walls with her x-ray vision. Knowing Dick wasn't far behind her, she flew into the flaming rubble and smoke to lift innocents from the inside of the structure before it would collapse. She could barely see once inside and she simply grabbed the nearest people to her, pulling them up and flying them down to the safety of the street below. She did this so many times she could barely think clearly from all of the smoke and ash. No matter how many she had saved, there were still others waiting so it was never enough...

Blackfire landed on her feet, and sighed.
It was so beautiful here by the river, it's where she always went every afternoon when she was "supposed" to be at headquarters.
She sat on a rock and watched the water flowing, the forest was so peacful not anything like the hustle and bustle of the city, she'd always felt safe here, away from old friends that were now Titan enemies.

Who did she have when they all went on their missions?
Nobody. Did they not see that keeping her "safe" in that place was suffocating? She wanted freedom, challenges...love.

But all she had were good for nothing powers and absent friends and family. Atear fell from her eye and trickled down her cheek. She swiped at it angrily and shook her head, she didn't like feeling sorry for herself. Why grant others the satisfaction of seeing her suffer?

Blackfire lay down on the rock and played with her powers, shooting little starbolts out of her hands until her violet eyes flickered closed.,,

Rampage almost made it to the entrance when a blur of motion flew through a hole in the rubble, then a moment later the blur, now clearly seen as a blonde young woman, came back out carrying people who had been trapped inside. Then a moment later flashed inside to repeat the process, glad for the help Rampage made it to the entrance, clearing away some of the rubble he burst through the warped doorway and into the burning structure. At the back he could seen over a dozen people huddled together all screaming for help, but before he managed to get to them he heard a sickening crack from above. Looking up the source of the noise became apparent, the pillars holding the ceiling up had been almost completely eaten away by fire and in a few moments it could come down on all of them.

In the time it had taken him to figure this out the blonde girl had already rescued another four people, knowing he couldn't match her speed and knowing she had a better chance of getting them out safely with more time than if he tried to help. He turned back and stood between the pillars pressing his hands to the ceiling and holding firm just as the two gave way, his arms and legs almost buckling from the strain he held it, pieces of the roof falling around him but it didn't collapse. Looking around he could see cracks forming on the walls and around his hands, it wouldn't stay up for long and there were still quite a few people trapped, their only hope the blonde girl, or possibly the exit he made if someone could clear the flames....

Nightwing had been wearing most of his costume under his street clothes. He had quickly pulled on some boots, and his mask, and headed into the building. He had pulled a breathing mask out too, and fit it to his face on his way in. He followed Supergirl, which wasn't an easy task considering how fast she was going. He used some extending sticks to brace some of the building's supports, so that people heading out wouldn't get crushed, and then headed into the inferno to search for survivors.

It happened so quickly, Kara/Supergirl had flown back into the flames for the umptienth time to search for more to save but it appeared the office building was as ampty as could be, and then a thundering crash above her head, and the building groaned under it's own weight...

...she sped ahead, trying to beat the crushing force of the collapse in a race to make it to the open window...

...blackness took hold...the sensation of falling, and then pain as the wind got knocked out of her...that was all she remembered before the blackness took over...

Between the efforts of the two they managed to empty the room just as the walls began to crumble, looking ahead the door simply too far away he realized that he'd never have the time to get out as the whole place would come down almost immediately after he let go. "At least everyone important got out." He said accepting his probable fate his arms releasing the weight of the roof, larger pieces of the ceiling started crashing down, but at that same instant the blonde girl that had rescued the civilians came back apparently to check one last time. With a thundering rumble the place started to come down around their ears, she made a run for it but she wouldn't make it he could tell, he couldn't help her get out but he did have one option. Diving for the girl he tackled her hard, his body pinning her under him heavily, then curled up over her like a shell. It was the best he could do, he couldn't get her out but maybe, just maybe he could save her from the crushing force of the collapsing building. Then with a bonejarring smash he felt the roof engulf him as conciousness faded he hoped that they would get her out in time.

Nightwing had been busy helping people out when he heard a crash from inside. The roof farther in came down, and he realized that he didn't see Supergirl come back out. He swore, and grabbed his communicator, speaking into it. "Nightwing to Supergirl. Nightwing to Supergirl. Do you read me?" he waited for a few moments, then shook his head, and put it on broadcast frequency. "Nightwing to anyone. Supergirl is down. We were helping people out of a burning building, and the roof caved in. I think she's trapped inside."

Tumbling through space...visions of her home planet...her mother and father, her cousin...Kara spent what felt like an eternity fighting through her dreams to get out of unconsciousness back to the waking world of the living.

She coughed up what felt like gravel and glass and stirred, pinned under an enormous amount of pressure and weight, hard angles softened slightly by a body on top of hers, the man who'd been helping save the innocent citizens was lying half conscious on top of her. Vaguely, she recalled him being inside when she'd gone back in to check one last time for others to rescue and being tackled by him as the roof finally collapsed. He'd saved her life by risking his own. A wave of greatfulness washed over Kars and she wondered what the chances of both of them coming out of this alive would be with the equivalent of half a building on top of them. Still, for the moment, he had a pulse and breathed and so did she. That in itself was something quite amazing.

Two empty beer cans layed beside his foot, and Crossfire was fumbling through his bag for a third. He then heard a short burst of static, then "Nightwing to anyone. Supergirl is down. We were helping people out of a burning building, and the roof caved in. I think she's trapped inside." there was another burst of static, and the message was over. He blinked, then pulled out a file, "Supergirl.." he read through the file and yawned. He pulled out another file and read that one "Nightwing.." he smiled "well thats who they sent me to talk to I suppose, if they aren't dead yet."

He looked behind him and saw a truck heading towards him, kicking up dust as it traveled across the wasteland that lay outside Jump City. He calmly kicked the beer cans behind a bush and pulled his helmet and jacket on.

In about five minutes Crossfire's bike was fixed, the AAA man had been tipped, and the sharpshooter was streaking across the dirt. His eyes flicked from grey to red and he swept his eyes across the landscape. A tower of bright red stood apart from everything else, he changed course and headed for there. He knew he would arrive late, but what could he have done to help? There was nothing to shoot anyways.
