I needed a little advice this morning but we don't have a thread to cover what I wanted. So I figured just open one that everyone could use for questions, information, tips ect that they wanted to share.

Please be respectful of the posts if the thread takes off as some might chose to ask a question that they think is important, and a reader might not.

If answering a question, please use your quote button so there'll be no confusion, and just to keep things tidy.

This is a question/help thread and their relevant answers, not a place to chat and flirt, the lounge has threads for that. Thank you.:rose:

Question

Has anyone else received an email from confirmationss@hotmail.com about the closure of their email account if they dont confirm certain info , including supplying their password. I've gotten them for the last 2 days, and while Im treating them as junk, I am concerned as I have some pretty important emails I cant afford to lose. I've posed the question on a Hotmail forum via the 'Help' button on my email account. Anyone looking for my pw is a red flag for me, but as I've said, I dont want this to be genuine, and for me to lose my account. BTW mine is not an unused account, it's just multiple times daily.

Below is the email.

This has all the signs of a Phishing scam, and a bad one at that. It is also a broader attempt at getting personal details to be used for identity theft.

Sign #1 - They are asking for account details. Not even Hotmail is stupid enough to do that. No mail provider EVER asks for the password.

Sign #2 - confirmatonss@hotmail.com. The highlighted is not spelt correctly, again a mail provider would use proper spelling or standard abbreviations.

If the scenario painted in this email were true, they would have a link to the conformation page that would not ask for any details. Most likely, they would nullify your password, forcing you to reset it and thereby reactivating it. Secondly, the deadline is far too short for a cleanup of that nature.

You'll find your service is running smoothly after the deadline has passed even if you ignore their request.

I hope that helps.

Cheers,

M13

Scam, totally agreeing with M13. I've had a hotmail account for 7 years now, always stuck with the same one and I get bucket loads of these. I always delete and lo and behold, my account is still around.

God...they just get dumber and dumber! Ignore it Alana, don't give them your details, if it was your hotmail provider, they'd already have these accessible details anyway because you filled them out to get your account. This is just a bad, bullshit scam.

Thank you M13 and Minxi. I 'know' and agree with all that you have said, but I just needed to hear it from someone else to set my mind at ease. I get stuff too that are obviously stupid, but this one just struck me differently and set me worrying as I have so much stuff tied up to this account that I can't afford to lose.

Thank you both, hugs.:rose:

Can any one help me.

I was wondering....

I have Photoshop but have never had the time to really learn to use it.

I usually use photo-bucket to make my siggy...

Recently however they overhauled their editing to make it better and took out the ability to make collages. :(

So my question is...

Does anyone please know of a simple to use program that I could used to create a new siggy along the lines of the one I have now?

A photo editing for dummies kind of thing.:)

Pretty please. :rose:

I'm not sure. I might have one on the comp somewhere. I'll check. I use Paint Shop Pro myself for doing a siggy or an av. It's a pretty easy concept with lots of tuts you can goggle for but if I understand right, PSP is along the lines of PhotoShop.

I use a program called GIMP. Its kinda Photoshop condensed.
You might also want to try Picasa Online (my laptop accidentally redirected me there when I opened a file wrong, and reminded me a lot of photobucket before they made things "easier". Gotta love when sites do that...)

A free downloadable I've used in the past was Photoscape...lets you make all sorts (gifs, collages etc.) and is really simple to use.

Thank you all so much, I will check them all out this weekend and see which one best suits my lack of expertise. :rose::rose::rose:

A Litster on another board recommended IrfanView. I've never used it, so I can't recommend it, but at least it's free.
